You will play a key part in delivering leakage reduction activities, providing excellent customer service, and supporting operational performance. You may occasionally be asked to work weekends, evenings, or overtime, but this is optional. You must be willing to travel to various locations, and as most of the work takes place outdoors, it is important that you enjoy working in all weather conditions.
Salary:
Leakage Technician: £30,000
Senior Leakage Technician: £34,000
Supervisor: £38,000
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to a Team Leader, you will support the delivery of leakage reduction targets across District Metered Areas (DMAs). Responsibilities include:
- Assessing, diagnosing, and determining suitable solutions to reduce leakage and support regulatory performance targets.
- Pinpointing leakage accurately and efficiently using a range of detection techniques.
- Achieving KPI targets and contributing to leakage reduction within DMAs.
- Attending excavations requested by Repairs and Maintenance teams to assist with leak location and verification.
- Supporting operational planning and contributing to continuous improvement based on field findings.
- Forming and maintaining strong working relationships with colleagues, contractors, and clients.
- Completing administrative duties including electronic timesheets, defect reporting, and vehicle checks.
- Ensuring that Health and Safety procedures and hygiene standards are followed at all times.
Additional expectations depending on level:
Senior Leakage Technician:
- Act as a technical lead in the field.
- Carry out more complex and advanced leak detection tasks.
- Train and mentor Assistant or Trainee Leakage Technicians.
Supervisor:
- Provide day-to-day supervision and coordination of field activities.
- Support planning, quality assurance, and performance achievement.
- Mentor and develop technicians and support the Team Leader with operational requirements.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
We welcome applicants with experience at all levels of leakage operations.
Essential or desirable skills include:
- Proven experience in leakage detection using acoustic loggers, ground microphones, correlators, step testing, or flow and pressure monitoring.
- Knowledge of water network hydraulics, pipeline materials, DMA structure, and water loss management techniques.
- Ability to use handheld devices, tablets, or logging software to document findings.
- Ability to work under pressure while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- A proactive and practical mindset along with a flexible and cooperative attitude.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience mentoring or supporting junior colleagues is advantageous and required at senior and supervisory level.
- Strong customer service approach and confidence when engaging with clients and members of the public.
What We Are Looking For
- NVQ Level 2 in Leakage Detection, Water Operations, or equivalent experience.
- National Water Hygiene Card (preferred, training can be provided).
- NRSWA Street Works certification at Operative or Supervisor level (preferred).
- Full, clean UK driving licence with no points (essential).
- Confined Space, First Aid at Work, or SHEA Water qualifications are desirable.
