UMO is a leading UK provider of specialist mentoring, wellbeing mentoring and coaching. We partner with universities and colleges to deliver DSA-funded mental health mentoring that helps students progress, stay in education, and thrive personally and academically.
We are recruiting Specialist Mental Health Mentors in Manchester to support students with diagnosed mental health conditions at undergraduate and postgraduate level. You’ll meet students one-to-one, in person, delivering practical strategies and reflective support that reduce barriers to learning, build independence and improve wellbeing.
This is a flexible, term-time role with a competitive rate of £25.00 per hour, plus holiday pay, pension, sick pay and clinical supervision. We welcome applicants able to commit to 25+ hours per week during term time.

- Supportive, experienced multidisciplinary team
- Accredited mental health practitioner (e.g., MBACP, UKCP, HCPC, RMN/NMC, Social Work England, OT, Counsellor, Psychotherapist, Psychologist)
- Honours degree (any subject)
- Minimum 1 year’s post-qualifying experience with young people or adults with mental health conditions
- Strong skills in risk awareness, reflective practice and practical strategy work
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to disability equity and inclusive education
- Ability to work independently and collaborate as part of a team
- Confidence working with diverse and multicultural communities
- Provide one-to-one mentoring for students with diagnosed mental health conditions
- Help students manage the impact of their condition on study and daily life
- Promote independence, resilience and wellbeing
- Support organisation, time-management and study strategies
- Monitor wellbeing, assess risk and escalate appropriately
- Maintain clear, GDPR-compliant records
- Liaise with HEIs, GPs and other professionals where needed
Location: Manchester (in person)
Contract: Zero-hours, flexible
Pay: £25.00 per hour
