Product Manager - 6 Month FTC
Location: London (Hybrid)
Salary: £85,000 - £100,000 pro rata
The Product Manager (6-Month Fixed Term Contract) is responsible for defining, documenting, and driving requirements across a designated SmartStream product line. This is a high-impact role for a candidate who is AI native - someone who actively incorporates AI tools into their daily practice: from research and discovery through to documentation, stakeholder communication, and competitive intelligence.
SmartStream is a global leader in financial transaction management, providing mission-critical software to tier-1 banks, broker-dealers, custodians, and corporates. Our products - spanning TLM Reconciliations, Cash & Liquidity Management, and Reference Data Management - sit at the heart of post-trade and back-office operations for the world's leading financial institutions. The PM will operate within this environment, working across a global, cross-functional team to drive product delivery and client outcomes.
The PM will support Sales and Pre-sales with client engagement, ensuring the right competitive and value proposition materials are in place to close business. They will create and coordinate Version Release Plans and GA Processes, and ensure all departments receive the training and documentation relevant to their roles.
Working closely with Development and QA, the PM will oversee roadmap delivery. Regular collaboration with client-facing teams - Support and Professional Services - will capture feedback and drive continuous product improvement.
Job Responsibilities
Define Product Version Release Plans and co-ordinate with the GA Process
Define and write Epics, Stories, and Success/Test Criteria for new functionality within an Agile development environment
Leverage AI tools to accelerate documentation, user story creation, competitive benchmarking, and stakeholder-ready summaries
Support Sales in creating compelling presentations that communicate the value proposition of SmartStream's solutions
Create and maintain Sales Battle Cards and Brochures
Prepare and co-ordinate training materials for Pre-sales and Professional Services
Ensure JIRA Epics, Stories, and Success/Test Criteria are appropriately documented, updated, and monitored
Participate in and lead client-facing knowledge-sharing sessions and product demonstrations
Stay abreast of industry trends, regulatory developments, and technology advances — particularly AI adoption across financial services
Key Skills
AI native: actively uses AI tools (e.g. Claude, Microsoft Copilot) to accelerate product work - including documentation, analysis, competitive research, and written communication
Works independently and is a self-starter, able to deliver at pace within a 6-month engagement
Proven presentation and storytelling skills - communicates complex, technical solutions clearly to varied audiences
Effective problem-solving and analytical skills
Ability to quickly grasp complex financial software solutions and translate them into clear customer value
Excellent written and verbal communication, with strong organisational and follow-up skills
Comfortable coordinating with clients and colleagues across global time zones
Can participate in deep technical meetings with customers and turn business problems into actionable product requirements
Resourceful, self-motivated, and customer-focused
Ability to function effectively in a global team environment
Desirable Skills
Knowledge of banking and/or back-office environments, including reconciliation and exception management
Experience defining or shipping AI/ML product features, or hands-on experience building AI-assisted workflows
Ability to adjust technical and business content for different audience levels — from operations teams to C-suite
Consultative approach to customer objections: identifies the real business problem, articulates SmartStream's ability to solve it, and finds creative paths forward
Enthusiasm for learning and operating within a fast-moving, innovation-focused environment
Prior experience in a contract or fast-ramp PM engagement
Qualifications
Degree or equivalent in Computer Science, IT, Finance, or a related discipline; demonstrable equivalent professional experience will be considered
Experience
Demonstrable AI literacy — able to provide concrete examples of how AI tools have improved their product management practice
Prior experience as a Product Manager in fintech or financial software is essential
Experience working in or closely with banking back-office or post-trade operations is highly advantageous
Familiarity with Agile methodologies and tools (JIRA, Confluence, or equivalent)
Strong presentation and communication skills
Experience delivering in a contract or fixed-term capacity is an advantage
