Universal Energy is expanding its nationwide network of approved electrical contractors.
We provide qualified customer enquiries, completed property surveys, installation bookings, and administrative support. You focus on completing safe, professional installations and delivering excellent customer service.
Projects include:
- Domestic and commercial EV charger installations
- Solar PV installations
- Battery storage systems
- Electrical testing and inspection
- EICRs and remedial electrical work
This independent contractor opportunity gives you control over the jobs you accept and the areas you cover.
Responsibilities
- Complete electrical installations, testing, repairs, and remedial work to a high standard
- Install EV chargers, solar PV systems, and battery storage equipment within your areas of competence
- Review customer survey information before attending each property
- Identify site issues, additional work, or safety concerns before starting an installation
- Test, inspect, commission, and certify completed work
- Follow BS 7671, Building Regulations, manufacturer instructions, and relevant industry standards
- Complete required installation records, certificates, photographs, and commissioning documents
- Support DNO, OZEV, and Building Control requirements where applicable
- Communicate clearly with customers before, during, and after each appointment
- Protect customers’ property and leave every work area clean and tidy
- Report delays, variations, access issues, and unexpected costs promptly
- Follow safe working practices and use suitable PPE at all times
Contractor requirements
- Registration with NICEIC, NAPIT, or another recognised competent person scheme
- Relevant electrical qualifications, including the current edition of BS 7671
- Inspection and testing qualifications
- Public liability insurance
- Professional indemnity insurance where required
- Experience completing electrical work independently
- Knowledge of UK electrical regulations and safe working practices
- Own tools, testing equipment, PPE, and suitable transport
- Calibrated testing equipment
- Ability to provide electrical certificates and installation records
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Reliable attendance and good time management
- Right to work and operate as a self-employed contractor in the UK
- Willingness to complete Universal Energy’s contractor approval process
Useful additional qualifications
- EV charging equipment installation qualification
- OZEV-authorised installer status or experience with OZEV requirements
- Solar PV and battery storage qualifications
- MCS registration or experience working under MCS standards
- Manufacturer training for leading EV charger, solar, or battery brands
- DBS certificate
- Experience working in occupied residential properties

Contract arrangement
This is an independent contractor opportunity rather than an employed position. Contractors remain responsible for their own tax, insurance, tools, transport, working methods, and business obligations.
Work volumes depend on customer demand, location, contractor availability, qualifications, performance, and the services offered.
Pay: £200.00-£400.00 per day
