Skybus Engineering provides aircraft maintenance and engineering support for the Skybus fleet operating throughout Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. Based at Land’s End Airport, we maintain a fleet of DHC-6 Twin Otter and BN2 Islander aircraft, delivering safe, reliable, and efficient operations in a dynamic regional airline environment.
We are seeking a motivated and experienced B1 Licensed Aircraft Engineer to join our engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a close-knit maintenance organisation supporting a unique fleet operating in one of the UK’s most distinctive aviation environments.
Role Summary
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the B1 Licensed Aircraft Engineer will be responsible for carrying out, supervising, certifying, and releasing maintenance activities on company aircraft in accordance with regulatory requirements, approved maintenance data, and company procedures.
The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining the airworthiness, safety, and operational availability of the fleet.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on DHC-6 Twin Otter and BN2 Islander aircraft.
- Certify maintenance activities in accordance with UK CAA Part-66 licence privileges and Part-145 procedures.
- Carry out defect diagnosis, troubleshooting, and rectification.
- Conduct aircraft inspections, including daily, weekly, and scheduled maintenance checks.
- Ensure all maintenance is completed in compliance with approved maintenance data and company procedures.
- Complete accurate maintenance documentation and aircraft records.
- Support Aircraft on Ground (AOG) recovery and operational requirements as necessary.
- Supervise and mentor mechanics and junior engineering staff.
- Ensure compliance with all safety, quality, and human factors requirements.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment within the hangar and on the flight line.
- Participate in the company shift and on-call rota as required
Essential Requirements
- UK CAA Part-66 B1 Aircraft Maintenance Licence.
- Valid driving licence.
- Previous experience working within a Part-145 maintenance environment.
- Strong knowledge of aircraft maintenance practices and aviation safety standards.
- Ability to interpret technical publications, maintenance manuals, and engineering drawings.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Right to work in the United Kingdom.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- Type-rated on DHC-6 Twin Otter and/or BN2 Islander aircraft.
- Experience within a regional airline or commercial aviation environment.
- Familiarity with aviation maintenance software and electronic technical records.
- Human Factors, Fuel Tank Safety, EWIS, and SMS training.
- Experience supervising maintenance teams.
