HGV Technician
Location: Bishops Cleeve, Gloucestershire (GL52 7DG)
Salary: £48,000 per annum
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Hours: Monday to Friday, 6:00am - 4:30pm, plus alternate Saturdays, 6:00am - 11:30am (47.75 hours average over a two-week period, including a later shift on rotation)
About the Role
We're recruiting on behalf of a leading UK waste management and environmental services business for an experienced HGV Technician to join their workshop team in Bishops Cleeve.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established organisation where you'll be responsible for delivering high-quality vehicle maintenance, repairs and diagnostics, helping to maximise fleet availability while minimising downtime. Working alongside an experienced engineering team, you'll play an important role in maintaining a modern fleet to the highest safety and compliance standards.
Please note that this role may require working at height. Due to the manufacturer's safety limits on specialist fall protection equipment, applicants must not exceed a weight of 140kg.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out inspections, servicing and repairs on HGVs and commercial vehicles
- Prepare vehicles for annual MOT inspections
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical faults
- Complete warranty repairs and scheduled maintenance to manufacturer standards
- Accurately complete service documentation and job records
- Maintain high standards of health and safety, housekeeping and workshop organisation
- Follow company Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs), risk assessments and PPE requirements
- Support and mentor apprentice technicians where appropriate
- Provide roadside assistance when required
- Attend manufacturer and technical training to maintain and develop your skills
- Work flexibly to support operational requirements, including occasional cover at other company sites
About You
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- City & Guilds Parts 1, 2 & 3, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in HGV maintenance, or at least 10 years' relevant industry experience
- Experience servicing, maintaining and repairing HGVs or commercial vehicles
- Strong knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical and electrical systems
- Experience diagnosing and fault finding vehicle defects
- A good understanding of current health and safety legislation and workshop best practice
- Strong communication skills and a professional approach
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent practical problem-solving skills
The following would be advantageous:
- HGV Licence (minimum Class 2)
- Driver CPC
- Digital Tachograph Card
- Good understanding of tachograph legislation
