Job Overview
We are seeking a talented and passionate Assistant Chef to join our Community cafe team at LifeCare. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills and a deep understanding of food safety and preparation techniques. As Assistant Chef, you will prepare meals for our community cafe, our meals on wheels service and our day centre clients and oversee kitchen operations in absence of the Chef, ensuring that all dishes are prepared to the highest standards while maintaining an efficient and harmonious working environment. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a fast-paced setting and has a genuine passion for hospitality and culinary excellence..
The hours for this position are (21.5 hours per week)
Tuesday 9am to 2pm
Wedesday 9am to 2pm
Thursday 8am to 3pm (30 min unpaid break)
Friday 9am to 2pm
Responsibilities
- Work along side and deputise for the chef, supervising kitchen staff, fostering a collaborative and positive work atmosphere.
- Work with current chef to plan and create innovative menus that showcase seasonal ingredients and culinary trends.
- Ensure all food is prepared in accordance with food safety regulations and quality standards.
- Oversee food production processes in the cafe ensuring the highest food standards are achieved and daily menu for upto 100 clients prepared within timescales for delivery.
- Manage inventory, including ordering supplies and minimising waste in absence of the chef.
- Work with Chef to ensure kitchen staff follow cooking procedures, food safety practices, and proper equipment usage.
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen area at all times.
- Work with Chef and Senior Manager to ensure all Cook Safe procedures are in place and all records completed to the highest standards, in line with Environmental Health Food Hygiene requirements.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as an Assistant Chef or in a similar culinary role within a restaurant/cafe environment with the ability to prepare and cook daily menu for upto 100 people.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to supervise and motivate a team effectively.
- In-depth knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices in food preparation.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining high standards of quality.
- Strong organisational skills with attention to detail in all aspects of kitchen management.
- A passion for hospitality and providing exceptional customer experiences.
