We are looking for an excellent hands-on Shop Manager to join the management team at The De Beauvoir Deli.
We are an independent fine-food business established in 2009, combining a busy deli and food shop with café, takeaway and kitchen operations.
This is first and foremost a shop-floor management role. You will be the manager on duty, responsible for making sure the shop runs brilliantly: leading the team, maintaining high standards, looking after customers and ensuring that everything that needs to happen during your shift gets done.
What matters most to us is finding someone who is a strong, organised and confident manager with high standards and a genuine interest in great food. You'll pick up the specifics of our fine food products as you go - what we're really looking for is someone who can lead a team and run a tight shift.
The role
As Shop Manager, you will:
- Take responsibility for the shop operation during your shifts
- Lead, organise and motivate the team throughout the day
- Maintain consistently high standards of customer service
- Ensure the shop is well stocked, beautifully presented and ready for trade
- Manage staff performance on shift, giving clear direction and addressing problems when standards aren't being met
- Ensure opening, closing and daily operational checks are completed properly
- Oversee replenishment, stock rotation, date checking and waste
- Complete daily ordering in line with our established systems and buying strategy
- Manage deliveries and ensure stock is received and stored correctly
- Maintain excellent standards of cleanliness, food safety and health & safety
- Manage breaks and staff deployment according to the needs of the business
- Deal confidently and professionally with customer issues
- Communicate clearly with other managers and provide effective handovers
- Identify problems and make sure they are resolved or escalated rather than left for somebody else
You will work closely with our General Manager, who has overall responsibility for the business, including buying, operations and commercial performance.
Who we're looking for
We're looking for someone who:
- Has previous experience managing people in a busy customer-facing environment
- Is comfortable taking responsibility and making decisions
- Notices when something isn't right and acts on it
- Can set expectations and hold people to them
- Is highly organised and able to prioritise when several things are happening at once
- Enjoys being on the shop floor and leading from the front
- Has excellent customer-service instincts
- Is commercially aware and understands the importance of sales, waste, stock and labour
- Communicates clearly and works well as part of a wider management team
- Is genuinely interested in food and keen to develop strong product knowledge
Experience in food retail, hospitality, premium retail or a similarly fast-paced operation would be a strong plus, but fine-food retail experience is not essential. We'll train you in the product knowledge as you settle into the role, so what matters most to us is someone who already knows how to manage people and run a great shift.
