Role Overview
The Manufacturing & Operations Technician plays a key role in supporting the manufacture, assembly, quality assurance, and distribution of specialist industrial products. This hands-on position requires a practical, safety-conscious individual with strong mechanical aptitude, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively across production, sales, and logistics functions.
The successful candidate will contribute to maintaining high product quality, ensuring efficient operational workflows, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives throughout the business.
Key Responsibilities
Manufacturing & Assembly
- Manufacture custom rubber profile products to customer specifications.
- Safely operate guillotine and press machinery following appropriate training.
- Operate manual workshop equipment including lathes and pillar drills, carrying out both metalworking and woodworking tasks.
- Modify and convert standard hydraulic shock absorber units to meet customer requirements.
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair returned hydraulic shock absorbers.
- Set and test gas springs to specified force requirements.
- Read, interpret, and work from engineering drawings, ensuring products are manufactured accurately.
- Provide technical guidance to colleagues regarding engineering drawings and manufacturing specifications where required.
Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement
- Ensure all manufactured products meet company quality standards and customer specifications.
- Identify manufacturing issues and work proactively to resolve them.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at increasing efficiency, reducing costs, improving workplace safety, and minimising environmental impact.
- Communicate production constraints, lead times, and technical considerations to the sales team.
Logistics, Stores & Dispatch
- Pick, pack, and dispatch customer orders accurately and efficiently.
- Receive, inspect, and book supplier deliveries into the ERP system.
- Store incoming goods correctly and maintain accurate stock records.
- Carry out stock replenishment and assist with inventory control activities.
- Safely load and unload delivery vehicles using appropriate manual handling techniques and equipment.
- Operate a forklift truck (following training and certification where applicable).
- Transport products and equipment using company vehicles when required.
- Order packaging materials and other operational consumables to maintain appropriate stock levels.
Teamwork & Communication
- Work closely with colleagues across Operations, Sales, and Purchasing to ensure customer orders are fulfilled efficiently.
- Maintain clear communication regarding production priorities and operational issues.
- Contribute positively to a collaborative team environment.
- Support other operational activities as required to meet business needs.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Essential
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Previous experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Good practical engineering and mechanical skills.
- Experience using manual workshop machinery and hand tools.
- Good level of computer literacy, including experience using ERP or stock management systems.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team.
- Good verbal communication skills.
Desirable
- Experience working with hydraulic shock absorbers or gas springs.
- Forklift Truck (FLT) Licence.
- First Aid at Work Certificate.
- NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in IT or a related discipline.
Training will be provided where appropriate.
Working Environment
This role is primarily workshop-based and involves manual handling, the operation of manufacturing equipment, and occasional driving of company vehicles. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn, and all company Health & Safety procedures must be followed at all times.

Pay: £35,000.00-£40,000.00 per year
