Location: Predominantly Reading, Royal Berkshire Hospital, Wokingham and emerging West Berkshire hub sites
Salary: £45,000 to £50,000 per annum
Hours: 40 hours per week
Contract: 12 months fixed term, with possibility of extension
The Primary Care Alliance CIC is a local primary care provider working across Berkshire West. We support general practice and deliver services at scale, working closely with practices, PCNs, Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust, Berkshire Healthcare Foundation Trust, the ICB and wider system partners.
Our service portfolio is growing and currently includes the Urgent Care Centre at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Lipid Optimisation, the emerging Women’s Health Hub, and wider hub-based services across Reading, Wokingham and West Berkshire.
We are looking for an experienced, proactive and visible Service Manager to join our operational team.
This is a hands-on, site-based role. The successful candidate will be expected to work across our operational sites, predominantly Reading, the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Wokingham and emerging West Berkshire hubs. This is not a remote role.
You will be responsible for supporting the safe and effective day-to-day delivery of services, including staff management, rotas, appointment books, performance, reporting, escalation, governance, service improvement and mobilisation of new services.
We are looking for someone who is organised, calm under pressure and comfortable working in a fast-moving healthcare environment. You will need to be confident managing operational staff, working with clinicians, using EMIS Web, reviewing activity and performance data, and resolving day-to-day service issues.
Main duties will include
- Day-to-day operational management of services across The Primary Care Alliance CIC portfolio
- Supporting delivery of the Women’s Health Hub, Lipid Optimisation and other hub-based services
- Line management and supervision of administrative, reception and operational staff
- Managing rotas, staffing cover, sickness, annual leave and service capacity
- Supporting appointment book management, reporting and data quality on EMIS Web
- Monitoring KPIs, activity, utilisation, DNAs, patient flow and service performance
- Supporting incidents, complaints, feedback, audit and governance processes
- Working closely with clinical leads, operational colleagues, practices and system partners
- Supporting mobilisation of new services, pathways and operational processes
- Maintaining a visible site presence and escalating risks or issues promptly
We are looking for someone with
- Significant experience in operational service management within healthcare or a similar setting
- Experience managing staff and supporting day-to-day service delivery
- Good working knowledge of EMIS Web or strong experience using primary care clinical systems
- Strong rota, staffing and capacity management experience
- Confidence working with activity, performance and workforce data
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- Ability to work calmly under pressure and manage competing priorities
- A proactive, practical and solution-focused approach
- Experience working with clinicians, practices, PCNs or wider NHS partners
- Willingness to work across multiple operational sites in Berkshire West
Experience in primary care, urgent care, GP federations, hub-based services or community healthcare would be a strong advantage.

The successful candidate must be able to travel between operational sites across Berkshire West.
Regular on-site presence is required.
Pay: £45,000.00-£50,000.00 per year
