We are currently working with a highly respected specialist SEN school in Sutton that is looking to appoint a committed and enthusiastic Secondary SEN Teacher for a September 2026 start.
This full-time role will initially run until the end of the academic year and offers the opportunity to become a permanent position for the right candidate. It is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about supporting young people with additional needs and helping them achieve their full potential.
The school provides specialist education for students aged 11–19 and supports a wide range of special educational needs and disabilities, including:
- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD)
- Complex communication and medical needs
- Social, emotional and behavioural difficulties
About the Role
As a Secondary SEN Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality, personalised learning to KS3 and KS4 pupils with a range of complex learning needs. You will work closely with support staff and other professionals to ensure every student receives the support and guidance needed to succeed both academically and personally.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, adapted lessons that meet the individual learning requirements of students with SEND.
- Create and implement personalised learning plans based on EHCP outcomes and pupil targets.
- Foster a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment that promotes confidence, independence, and wellbeing.
- Utilise specialist teaching methods, communication tools, visual supports, and sensory-based strategies to maximise student engagement.
- Monitor, assess, and record student progress, adapting provision where required.
- Contribute to annual reviews, EHCP meetings, and progress reporting.
- Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists, parents, and external agencies.
- Support the social, emotional, and behavioural development of students.
The Ideal Candidate
- Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
- Has experience working with secondary-aged pupils with special educational needs.
- Demonstrates a strong understanding of ASD, PMLD, and complex learning needs.
- Has experience developing and delivering personalised learning programmes.
- Possesses excellent communication, organisational, and classroom management skills.
- Is patient, resilient, and committed to delivering inclusive education.
