About the Role
Are you a confident, energetic musician who loves working with young people and bringing music to life in a group setting?
Guildford Rock School is looking for a Rock Band Club Leader to run fun, high-energy after-school rock and pop band sessions in local primary schools. This is a fantastic opportunity for a multi-instrumentalist who enjoys leading small groups, building confidence in young musicians, and helping students experience the excitement of playing in a band.
You’ll be leading weekly after-school clubs where students learn to rehearse songs together, develop ensemble skills, and work towards performances.
This freelance role begins with a regular weekly after-school club at Wonersh and Shamley Green Primary School, with strong potential for additional schools and hours.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead engaging, well-structured after-school Rock Band Clubs for primary school aged children
- Teach students how to play and rehearse songs together as a band
- Support students on a mix of instruments (guitar, bass, drums, keys, vocals)
- Arrange and simplify parts to suit different ability levels
- Create a fun, supportive, and inclusive environment where students grow in confidence
- Manage basic behaviour and keep sessions focused, positive, and productive
- Liaise professionally with school staff and Guildford Rock School admin
- Help prepare students for occasional performances and showcases
- Set up and pack down basic band equipment where required
What We’re Looking For
Applicants should be practically confident supporting children across several band instruments - not necessarily to an advanced standard, but sufficiently to demonstrate parts and guide a full-band rehearsal.
- Confident multi instrumentalist
- Strong practical skills in rock and pop music
- Confident leading small groups of children in a lively, structured way
- Experience working with young people preferred (teaching, tutoring, coaching)
- Ability to break down songs into simple, achievable parts
- Enthusiastic, encouraging, and reliable
- Organised and punctual, with good communication skills
- Comfortable managing a group and setting clear expectations
- Full UK driving licence, own transport and willingness to travel between schools in the Guildford area required
- Enhanced DBS certificate
What We Provide
- Full band backline provided
- Full session structure and guidance on how Rock Band Clubs run
- Song resources, teaching ideas, and ongoing support
- All scheduling, invoicing, and parent communication handled by our admin team
- Equipment support and advice
- Term-time only work (with optional holiday work opportunities)
- Opportunities to take on additional schools, private students, or studio-based teaching
