The Harrow is a traditional, family-run countryside pub based on Stanstead Road in Caterham. Our mission is to deliver great pub food and friendly service for guests; and have a nice working environment for our team, who will work hard in return.
We are seeking a part-time Kitchen Porter to join our team at The Harrow.
In this role, you will play a vital part in supporting our kitchen and front of house operations, ensuring cleanliness and efficiency while contributing to the efforts of the entire team to deliver a great experience for our guests.
Kitchen Porter:
- You'll focus on washing plates and equipment to a high standard, and help upkeep the organisation and cleanliness of the kitchen and food preparation areas.
- Support chefs during service by providing necessary utensils and ingredients.
- Support our delivery of many fresh menu items doing basic (but copious!) preparation of ingredients like vegetables
This is an ideal first job - many of our team started out doing this role and have developed into other areas within the business.
Shifts are on evenings (5pm/6pm start, 10pm approx finish) and/or the weekends, so it is essential that you are able to work during these times.
The both roles require:
- Good communication skills and teamwork mentality
- Willingness to learn and take on new challenges
- Comfortable with standing for the majority of the shift, light but regular lifting, and cleaning.
The role will pay National Minimum Wage (dependant on age) paid weekly, on top of which you will get a share of the tips paid to our team which are paid monthly.
We hire several students and are committed to offering flexibility around needs of their studies. This goes two ways, as outside of term time (summer, Christmas, Easter etc) many of our student staff pick up extra shifts to support our busy periods.
We urge applicants to check the location of our pub and make sure that getting to and from shifts here is convenient, as unfortunately there isn't much public transport close by.

Pay: £8.00-£12.71 per hour
