On behalf of the MOD, we are looking for a Mechanical Engineer (Inside IR35) for a 7 month hybrid contract based in Bristol.

As a Mechanical Engineer, your main responsibilities will be:
- Technical query & issue resolution (examples include emails, headset calls).
- Representation at formal and informal Technical Review Meetings (examples include note taking, Subject Matter Expert (SME) advice to attendees, taking actions).
- Implementation of engineering solutions to address Engineering, Technical Documentation and Data issues in the Systems and Equipment’s supported by the PPA team (examples include provision of advice to ship staff).
- Fault finding, diagnostics, Root Cause Analysis & OPDEF support
- To liaise with PPA Obsolescence POD to resolve Obsolescence issues.
- Reliability issues identified from in-service performance data (examples include increased item failure rates leading to reduced operational availability, that require longer duration investigations, which require more extensive data research or OEM cross reference).
Essential:
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related engineering discipline), or demonstrable equivalent industry experience within complex engineering, defence, maritime, aerospace, or highly regulated environments.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships, influence decision-making, and collaborate successfully with internal and external stakeholders at all levels, including senior leadership, technical SMEs, suppliers, and customers.
- SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks. Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance.
Desirable:
- Experience within the maritime, naval, defence, or other highly regulated engineering sectors, with an understanding of equipment lifecycle management, configuration control, and in-service support environments.
- Knowledge or experience of water purification, water treatment, desalination, filtration systems, or associated mechanical/process engineering technologies within industrial, marine, or defence applications.
