Groundworker – External Finishing / Drainage – Hertfordshire Role Overview
We are looking for experienced Groundworkers to join our team on projects across Greenwich, focusing on external finishing works and drainage installations.
The successful candidate will have proven experience in all aspects of finishing groundworks, including drainage, kerbing, paving, edging, slab laying, ducting, and final external works. You will play a key role in delivering high-quality infrastructure and landscaping packages safely and efficiently.
Please note: Due to site safety and face-fit requirements for respiratory protective equipment (RPE), all operatives must be clean shaven.
We have long-term work available, 10 hours paid per day, competitive rates for suitable candidates.
Key Responsibilities-
Carry out all aspects of external finishing groundworks.

Install and maintain drainage systems, including foul, storm, and surface water drainage.

Lay pipes, manholes, chambers, gullies, and associated drainage components.

Excavate, backfill, and reinstate drainage trenches.

Install ducting and service trenches as required.

Lay kerbs, edgings, block paving, and flag paving.
-
Prepare and finish sub-bases, including Type 1 installation and compaction.

Carry out concrete works, including bases, haunching, and small pours.

Install external slabs, pathways, and hard landscaping features.
-
Work safely around live services, undertaking hand digging where required.

Assist plant operators and bank excavators, dumpers, and other site machinery.

Read and work from drawings, levels, and supervisor instructions.

Maintain a safe, tidy, and compliant working environment.

Work effectively as part of a gang to achieve programme deadlines and quality standards.
Requirements
-
Valid CSCS Groundworker Card (or equivalent).
-
Proven experience in external finishing and drainage works.
-
Experience installing drainage systems, pipes, manholes, and chambers.
-
Experience with kerbing, edging, paving, slab laying, and finishing works.

Competent in working from levels, drawings, and site instructions.
-
Confident working around live services and carrying out hand digging when required.

Strong understanding of health and safety requirements on construction sites.
-
Must be clean shaven to comply with site face-fit and RPE requirements.

Reliable, punctual, and able to work effectively within a team.
-
Right to work in the UK.
Desirable

CPCS/NPORS – Forward Tipping Dumper.
-
CPCS/NPORS – Ride-On Roller.
-
CAT & Genny.
-
Street Works (NRSWA) qualification.
-
Safety Critical Medical.
