Purpose of the Role:
As a Teaching Assistant at Lake House School, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and associated needs to access learning, develop communication, regulate emotions, and build independence.
Working under the direction of the class teacher and the school’s clinical team, the post holder will support learning in class and deliver targeted interventions and programmes designed by therapists and clinicians (e.g. speech and language, occupational therapy, or behaviour/regulation programmes).
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide support to students during lessons, helping them to understand instructions, tasks, and concepts.
- Assist with the planning and preparation of teaching materials and resources. In addition, TA staff will support teachers with certain aspects of feedback to students.
- Work with small groups of students to reinforce learning, provide additional support, and facilitate activities. sometimes this will be on a 1:1 basis as required.
- Help to create a positive and inclusive classroom environment where all students feel valued and supported.
- Assist with behaviour management strategies and help to promote positive behaviour among students.
- Support the delivery of provision specified in pupils’ EHCPs
- Use autism-informed strategies such as: Visual supports, Clear routines, Structured work systems, Regulation and sensory strategies
- Deliver intervention programmes and therapeutic strategies as directed by the school’s clinical team (e.g. Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or behaviour/regulation plans)
- Assist with administrative tasks such as record-keeping, organising resources, and preparing displays.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience of working with children or young people with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) is essential
- A good understanding of autism and associated needs (e.g. sensory processing, anxiety, communication differences) and the importance of structure, routine, and consistency

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required
- A good sense of humour and kind disposition is required in this role
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to build positive relationships around the characteristics of trust, respect, effort and kindness with students and staff is a fundamental part of the role
- Flexibility and adaptability, with a ‘can-do’ attitude and willingness to take on a variety of tasks
- A passion for education and a commitment to supporting student learning and development
