Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Stockperson to manage daily operations on our organic farm. This role involves managing pedigree livestock , farm maintenance to ensure sustainable and efficient farm practices. The successful candidate will play a vital part in maintaining the health of livestock, maintaining breeding programmes, rearing stock for finishing and ensuring the smooth running of all farm activities. This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about organic farming and sustainable agriculture to contribute to a thriving farm environment. The successful candidate will also be required to manage farm employees including apprentices.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily farm operations and livestock management
- Conduct routine equipment repairs and maintenance, utilising mechanical knowledge and power tools as needed
- Use hand tools for general farm upkeep
- Assist with animal care, including feeding, health checks, and habitat maintenance
- Perform heavy lifting tasks related to equipment setup or material handling
- Monitor soil health and areas specified for farming alongside nature
- Maintain accurate breeding records, animal health records, and monitor equipment repairs
- Ensure compliance with organic farming standards and safety regulations
Requirements
- Proven experience in animal husbandry, or organic farming environments
- Mechanical aptitude with the ability to repair equipment using hand tools and power tools
- Basic mathematical skills for measurements, calculations, and record keeping
- Physical fitness with the ability to perform heavy lifting and work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Strong organisational skills with attention to detail in maintaining records and schedules
- Ability to operate farming machinery safely and efficiently
- Excellent problem-solving skills related to equipment maintenance and farm management tasks
- Previous experience with animal care is essential
- A proactive attitude towards sustainable farming practices and continuous learning
