About the role
As the Head of Retail Actuarial team, you will be responsible for leading a cross-functional team of 20+ actuaries supporting multiple Gallagher entities. This role requires strong leadership skills to ensure the team operates in a cohesive, collaborative, and high-performing environment- both within the Retail team and the broader actuarial function (including Gallagher Re).
In addition to team leadership, the role has a key technical component. You will work closely with the Pen Underwriting team (a core part of the Retail team), providing actuarial support across pricing and reserving projects, and acting as a trusted partner to the business.
About Gallagher Centre of Excellence- P&C Actuarial Team
The Gallagher Centre of Excellence (GCoE) serves as a strategic capability hub, delivering high-quality service and analytical support, including actuarial, across Gallagher’s global businesses.
The GCoE actuarial team comprises 60+ actuaries supporting multiple Gallagher entities globally, including but not limited to Gallagher Re, Pen Underwriting and Risk Placement Services (RPS). While supporting a diverse set of business areas and stakeholder requirements, the team operates as a unified function with a strong emphasis on collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous development.

Responsibilities
We are looking for a credentialed actuary with 8+ years of experience in the Property and Casualty domain to join Gallagher as the Head of Retail Actuarial Team. The ideal candidate will possess a solid mix of technical skills, along with strong leadership experience in building and managing high-performing actuarial teams.
The key areas of the role are:
Technical Responsibilities (Pen Underwriting):

Partner with underwriting, claims, and external stakeholders to support sustainable portfolio profitability and informed decision-making.

Develop, enhance, and maintain pricing models across various Financial Lines underwriting divisions.

Evaluate the impact of underwriting actions, rate changes, retention, and new/lost business to provide actionable insights.

Apply sound reserving principles and collaborate with reserving teams to ensure alignment between pricing, performance monitoring, and reserving views.

Oversee quarterly delivery of Profit Commission and Claims Handling Provision calculations, ensuring accuracy and timeliness for executive reporting.
- Contribute to development of innovative concepts, tools, and automating reserving/pricing processes, including streamlining underlying sources of data and databases.

Manage competing stakeholder priorities and ensure delivery of timelines through effective planning and coordination.

Lead end-to-end project execution across actuarial initiatives, including scoping, resource planning, progress tracking, and stakeholder communication.
Leadership Responsibilities:

Lead and develop a team of 20+ actuaries, drive high performance, engagement, and continuous career progression.
- Foster a culture of ownership and accountability, empowering teams to deliver independently without micromanagement.

Manage and influence stakeholders across geographies and Gallagher entities, building strong relationships, and ensuring alignment with business priorities.

Present insights and recommendations to senior stakeholders and play a key role in onboarding new business areas and expanding actuarial support.

Providing technical leadership and mentorship across teams, including supporting onboarding new hires and scaling newly established or pilot teams.

Promote a collaborative working environment across pods and with other business functions, ensuring effective cross-functional development.

Partner with Talent Acquisition to support hiring, employer branding, and building a strong actuarial talent pipeline.

Drive internal initiatives focused on team development, identifying capability gaps, and implementing structured solutions to address them.

Champion innovation within the team, including supporting the adoption of new tools, technologies, and AI-driven initiatives.
About you
Qualifications / Skills Required

Relevant experience in P&C domain. Having worked on a wider range of geographies and lines of business is an added advantage.

Progress towards Actuarial fellowship from a recognized institution. Having accreditation is ideal. Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Excel in particular), including the ability to work with large datasets. Programming skills (R, Python, SQL) would be a nice-to-have.
