Job Purpose
To lead and manage a designated room within the nursery, ensuring the highest standards of care, learning, and safeguarding. The Room Leader will be responsible for delivering outstanding early years education in line with the EYFS framework, supporting and motivating the room team, and creating a safe, stimulating, and inclusive environment where every child can thrive.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, support, and inspire a team of practitioners within the room
- Act as a positive role model, demonstrating best practice at all times
- Oversee staff deployment to ensure ratio and operational requirements are met
- Support team development through mentoring, supervision, and performance feedback
- Ensure the room is well-organised, fully resourced, and compliant with nursery policies
Learning, Teaching & Development
- Plan and implement high-quality, engaging activities in line with the EYFS
- Ensure planning reflects children’s interests and individual development needs
- Monitor, assess, and track children’s progress accurately
- Maintain up-to-date learning journeys and records
- Promote school readiness and independence
- Support children with additional needs in partnership with SENCO and external professionals
Safeguarding & Welfare
- Promote a strong safeguarding culture where children’s safety and wellbeing are paramount
- Ensure full compliance with safeguarding, health & safety, and statutory welfare requirements
- Maintain a clean, safe, and stimulating learning environment
- Follow safeguarding procedures and report concerns appropriately
- Ensure risk assessments are carried out and reviewed regularly
Partnerships with Parents & Professionals
- Build strong, professional relationships with parents and carers
- Provide regular updates on children’s development and wellbeing
- Conduct parent meetings and contribute to reports as required
- Work collaboratively with external professionals when necessary
- Promote open communication and positive partnership working
Operational Responsibilities
- Support occupancy and retention by delivering high-quality practice
- Assist with room budgets and resource management
- Contribute to nursery events, inspections, and continuous improvement plans
- Support the management team in maintaining high standards across the setting
Person SpecificationEssential
- Level 3 qualification in Early Years (or above)
- Strong knowledge of the EYFS framework
- Sound understanding of safeguarding and welfare requirements
- Experience working in an Early Years setting
- Previous experience leading a room or senior practitioner experience
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
Desirable
- Paediatric First Aid qualification
- Experience supporting staff supervision and development
- SEN experience
- Experience within a Good or Outstanding Ofsted-rated setting
- Outdoor play (OPAL) & Forest School experience
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: £29,500.00-£32,500.00 per year
