Deputy Manager – Care Home - Residential / Nursing

Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Deputy Manager to join our leadership team. The Deputy Manager will support the Home Manager in the day-to-day running of the home, ensuring the highest standards of care, safety, and compliance with CQC and local authority expectations.
This is an exciting opportunity for a healthcare professional with a strong clinical background (Nurse/ strong clinical experience preferred) to lead by example, inspire a team, and drive service excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Management
* Assist the Home Manager in all aspects of operational and clinical management of the home.
* Lead and motivate the care team to deliver exceptional, person-centred care.
* Act as the responsible person in the absence of the Home Manager.
* Support a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and professional growth.
* Manage staff rotas, recruitment, inductions, supervision, and performance appraisals.
* Promote effective communication across all departments, ensuring seamless coordination between care, kitchen, maintenance, and administration teams.
* Support HR processes, including absence management and disciplinary procedures, in line with company policy.
* Participate in resident admissions and pre-assessment processes to ensure smooth transitions into care.
Clinical and Care Quality
* Provide clinical leadership and ensure safe, evidence-based care practices throughout the home.
* Conduct and oversee clinical audits, including medication, infection control, nutrition, hydration, and falls.
* Monitor clinical indicators (pressure areas, weight loss, wounds, incidents) and implement corrective actions promptly.
* Support accurate care planning, risk assessment, and reviews to ensure person-centred and outcome-focused care.
* Oversee safe medication administration and storage in compliance with policies and CQC standards.
* Champion best practices in infection prevention, safeguarding, and mental capacity compliance.
* Conduct quality assurance checks and ensure continuous learning from audits, incidents, and feedback.
Training and Staff Development
* Identify training needs and ensure staff receive timely mandatory and developmental training.
* Coach and mentor junior staff, fostering leadership at all levels.
* Support competency assessments and clinical supervision programmes.
* Promote reflective practice and staff engagement sessions for quality improvement.
Governance and Compliance
* Assist in preparing the home for internal audits, CQC inspections, and local authority visits.
* Maintain robust governance systems, ensuring policies, procedures, and documentation are current and implemented effectively.
* Lead or contribute to monthly governance, health & safety, and quality assurance meetings.
* Record and analyse incidents, complaints, and safeguarding concerns to ensure lessons learned and continuous improvement.
* Support the Home Manager in implementing the Home Development Plan and Action Plans.
Resident, Family & Community Engagement
* Build and maintain positive relationships with residents, families, professionals, and external agencies.
* Participate in resident and family meetings, ensuring transparency and responsiveness to feedback.
* Promote social inclusion and resident wellbeing through meaningful activities and community connections.
* Lead by example in demonstrating compassion, respect, and professionalism.
Qualifications & Experience
* Deputy Manager/Unit Manager - 6+ year experience - Strong leadership quality, Strong Communication skills to resident and their family, external bodies, staff coaching/mentoring and team-building skills.
* Nurse (RGN/RMN) preferred, with strong clinical experience (10+ years) in a care home or healthcare setting.
* Minimum 5 years of experience in a senior or management role within a care environment.
*NVQ Level 4/5 in Health and Social Care or equivalent leadership qualification.
* Excellent understanding of CQC regulations, governance, and compliance frameworks.
* Competent IT skills (Microsoft Office, Care Management Software, Digital Care Systems).
* Excellent organisational and communication skills with a compassionate, person-centred approach.
* Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain high standards and communication under pressure.
