The George Payne is a community pub in Poets Corner Hove. We serve a traditional British menu all week with a busy roast service on a Sunday. We have run the pub since 2012, it is part of the Good Times Pubs & Bars family, we pride ourselves on proper hospitality, strong teams and pubs that locals genuinely care about. We are also a free house that allows for a good choice of local beers and ales.
We are now looking for a new General Manager who can lead from the front with a proven track record of driving revenue, leading high-performing teams, and delivering consistently excellent guest experiences.

Role Objectives:
- Take full ownership of the pub with an entrepreneurial mindset.
- Oversee daily operations, ensuring consistently high standards.
- Define clear roles and expectations for your management team, supporting their ongoing development.
- Collaborate with the HR Consultant and Head of Operations on all people matters (recruitment, on boarding, performance, and development)
- Work with Head Office on compliance, finance, marketing, and events.
- Drive bar performance, product development, and revenue growth.
- Lead weekly management meetings to review performance, plan ahead, and drive accountability.
- Conduct monthly staff meetings to engage and align the wider team.
- Deliver training to your management team, particularly around cellar standards, product, and service.
Requirements:
- Strong leadership capability with a passion for developing people.
- Proven experience in a busy, wet-led hospitality environment.
- Solid food & beverage background with experience leading teams.
- Expert cellar knowledge.
- Confident trainer and coach, able to upskill management teams.
- Clear communicator with the ability to set direction and expectations.
- Commercially aware, with a focus on driving sales and controlling costs.
- Strong understanding of local hospitality trends.
- Positive, adaptable, and solutions-focused.
- Right to work in the UK.
