Overview
We are seeking a dedicated SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Teaching Assistant to support children with special educational needs within a school setting. The successful candidate will work closely with pupils who have social, emotional, and behavioural challenges, including those with autism and other disabilities. Duties
- Assist teachers in delivering tailored educational programmes for pupils with SEMH needs
- Support children with autism and other disabilities during classroom activities and social interactions
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment to promote emotional well-being
- Provide one-to-one support for children requiring additional assistance, including toddlers and early learners
- Implement behaviour management strategies in line with school policies
- Encourage communication skills development through personalised activities and interactions
- Assist in the organisation of classroom resources and learning materials
- Support pupils during break times, lunch periods, and specialised therapy sessions as needed
Qualifications
- Experience working with individuals with autism, disabilities or within special education settings is highly desirable
- Prior experience supporting children in educational or care environments is advantageous
- Strong communication skills to effectively engage with children, teachers, and parents
- A compassionate and patient approach to supporting children with diverse needs
- Knowledge of working with children who have social, emotional, and behavioural difficulties is preferred
- Relevant qualifications in childcare, education support, or special education are beneficial but not essential
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment and follow guidance from teaching staff
