Primary Teaching Assistant
Sense Education has an exciting new position for a Primary Teaching Assistant at a specialist unit in Leeds. The position is to support a small class of 6 pupils with Autism. They are working at an EYFS level and KS1.
The ideal person for this role will be caring and compassionate with a calm approach to learning. They will be fun and creative, bringing a dynamic approach that will help engage the pupils and develop communication skills, along with literacy, numeracy and independence. The role is full-time; school hours are 8:30–3:30, Monday to Friday.
The primary is a vibrant dynamic primary with a large intake of pupils with EHCPs.
The role:
- To support the teacher in delivering EYFS and KS1 lessons tailored to the pupil's needs
- To support the pupils in developing skills such as communication and social skills
- To take a caring approach to engage the pupils
- To support when required with challenging behaviour
- To communicate and report back to the teacher each day on the pupils development
- To engage with the parents when required
- To keep the learning environment safe, clean and tidy for development
The ideal candidate:
- Will have experience in supporting young people or adults with Autism
- Will have a caring approach to supporting young people
- Is passionate about making and improving the learning journey for young people with SEND
- May have an Autism awareness qualification but not a must
- May have a childcare or TA qualification but not a must

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
