ABOUT SWEENEY
Sweeney is a family-owned Scottish hospitality group, offering our guests a warm and genuinely welcoming stay across our properties in Inverness, Aviemore and Motherwell. We're growing thoughtfully — with a major development, 19-bedroom flagship property taking shape in Inverness — and we're looking for a General Manager who wants to help lead that next chapter.
At Sweeney, everything we do is built on genuine, personal service and a real passion for creating memorable experiences.
THE ROLE
As General Manager of Sweeney Hotel Inverness, you'll take full ownership of the day-to-day running of the property — from guest experience and team leadership to commercial performance. You'll set the standard the whole team works to, and you'll be the person guests, team members and suppliers look to for direction.
This is a hands-on leadership role. You'll be visible on the floor, close to your team, and closely involved in the guest journey — not managing from behind a desk.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead all aspects of hotel operations, including front of house, food & beverage, housekeeping and rooms, to the highest standard
- Build, coach and lead a top-class team — recruiting, training and developing people who share our high standards
- Own the guest experience end to end, ensuring every visit is memorable for the right reasons
- Manage budgets, rotas and cost control, and deliver against commercial and financial targets
- Maintain full compliance with licensing, health & safety, food safety and employment law
- Drive online reputation, with a clear goal of achieving a 4.6★ average or above on TripAdvisor and generating positive, named mentions of the team
- Act as an ambassador for the Sweeney brand as we grow our footprint across Scotland
- Work closely with Sweeney Group leadership on wider business priorities and new openings
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Proven experience as a General Manager, Hotel Manager or Operations Manager within hospitality
- A hands-on, visible leadership style — comfortable on the floor, not just in the office
- A track record of building and leading high-performing teams
- Strong commercial acumen, with confidence managing budgets, P&L and cost control
- A genuine, guest-first mindset — someone who enjoys the work and holds themselves and others to the highest standard
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to lead calmly under pressure
