Outdoor Terrace Server — Fixed Term, Summer 2026 Byward Kitchen & Bar | Tower Hill, London EC3
We're an independent, family-run restaurant and bar beside All Hallows by the Tower Church, near the Tower of London. This summer we're opening our outdoor terrace — and we're looking for one experienced server to run it.
This is a fixed-term position, Monday to Saturday, 8:30am to 3pm. No evenings, no late nights. If you know how to manage an outdoor section, work a terrace with confidence, and deliver a warm, professional guest experience from the moment someone sits down to the moment they leave, we'd like to hear from you.
The Role
You will be responsible for the terrace throughout service — setting up before opening, delivering attentive food and beverage service across your section, and closing down at the end of each day. You will manage the full guest journey: greeting and seating guests, guiding them through the menu, taking and processing orders accurately, and handling payment confidently.
Working closely with the wider front-of-house team inside, you will be the face of our outdoor space — keeping it well-presented, running smoothly, and delivering the standard of hospitality Byward is known for.
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience working in a similar hospitality role, ideally with time on an outdoor terrace in London or another European city Confident managing a section independently, with a calm head under pressure Strong knowledge of food and beverage service, with the ability to make recommendations and handle allergen queries with confidence A natural warmth with guests — someone who builds rapport quickly and makes people feel genuinely welcome Excellent attention to detail and a proactive approach to keeping your section in good order Strong communication and the ability to work as part of a wider team The right to work in the UK

Responsibilities
- Greet guests warmly upon arrival and ensure they feel comfortable throughout their visit
- Take accurate food and beverage orders, providing recommendations where appropriate
- Serve food and drinks efficiently whilst maintaining a friendly demeanour
- Assist with food preparation tasks as needed, ensuring cleanliness and organisation in the service area
- Maintain high standards of food safety and hygiene at all times
- Handle payments accurately and process transactions using the point-of-sale system
- Set up and clear tables promptly, ensuring the dining area remains tidy and inviting
- Collaborate with team members to deliver seamless service during busy periods
- Support barista duties if required, including preparing coffee and other beverages with care
- Uphold health and safety regulations in accordance with company policies
Skills
- Previous experience in catering, serving or hospitality is highly desirable
- Knowledge of food safety standards and practices
- Experience in restaurant environments or barista roles is advantageous
- Excellent communication skills with a friendly, professional manner
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure whilst maintaining attention to detail
- Strong organisational skills to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- A proactive attitude with a genuine passion for delivering outstanding customer service
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities within a fast-paced setting
