Registered Manager – New Therapeutic Children’s Home (SEMH)
Location: Bristol Salary: £55,000 – £65,000 per annum + Performance Bonus Scheme Service: Newly Established, 3-Bed Therapeutic Home (SEMH)
Are you an experienced Registered Manager tired of inheriting broken systems or trying to turn around entrenched, negative cultures?
At Halcyon Health and Social Care, we are partnering with a highly ambitious and deeply therapeutic care provider to find a passionate Registered Manager for a brand-new, 3-bed children’s home in Bristol.
This is a rare "blank canvas" opportunity. You will have the autonomy to open the home, shape the staff team, oversee the initial admissions and matching, and embed a genuinely trauma-informed culture from day one.
The Vision & Culture
This home has been established to provide a safe, nurturing, and psychologically informed environment for children and young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
This is not about behaviour containment; it is about restorative and relational practice. Working alongside therapists, educators, and social workers, you will lead a team trained to understand the impact of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and attachment difficulties. If you are passionate about PACE, attachment theory, and helping children recover from complex trauma, this provider will give you the resources and backing to practice exactly that.
Your Impact (The Role)
As the Registered Manager, you will take ownership of the home’s Ofsted registration and its ongoing operational success.
- Culture Building: Develop and embed a positive, therapeutic environment that promotes emotional regulation and child-centred care.
- Leadership: Recruit, inspire, and supervise a skilled staff team, promoting reflective practice and safeguarding their wellbeing.
- Operational Excellence: Oversee safe staffing rotas, budget management, and holistic care planning.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure the home consistently operates in line with the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015, Quality Standards, and the latest safeguarding legislation (including Working Together to Safeguard Children 2026).
Strict Criteria & Requirements
Because you will be leading a new therapeutic provision, we are looking for a leader with a proven, verifiable track record of excellence.
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years working within residential childcare, with at least 2 years in a management role within a children's residential home.
- Track Record: You must have proven experience managing children’s homes rated ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted (URN references will be required during the process).
- Qualifications: Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
- Specialist Knowledge: Strong understanding of SEMH needs, complex trauma, and therapeutic parenting approaches.
- Driving: A full UK Driving Licence is essential, alongside the flexibility to participate in an on-call rota.
(Experience in opening or developing a new children’s home is highly desirable, but not essential if you have a strong Ofsted track record).
The Package & Rewards
- Elite Salary: £55,000 – £65,000 base salary, reflecting the seniority and expectations of the role.
- Bonus Scheme: A performance bonus scheme tied to quality outcomes and Ofsted ratings.
- Professional Autonomy: The backing of a dedicated leadership team that values clinical input and therapeutic excellence.
