New Directions is proud to be supporting a SEMH-specific special school in south Birmingham. The school caters to individuals within key stage 3 and 4 (11-16 years) who have faced or are currently facing extremely challenging times in their young lives. Due to their lived experiences they can struggle to regulate their emotions and behaviour. With this in mind, building trust and a strong rapport with individuals is key to creating positive working relationships, and therefore all staff need to be reliable and dependable. This a full-time role, working 8:30-3:30, Monday top Friday.
Key Responsibilities
Support young people aged 11–16 years who are currently facing very challenging experiences
Build strong positive relationships in order to motivate and encourage individuals to access their education
Assist with the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs), EHCP outcomes, and personalised learning programmes
Follow behaviour policies and behaviour management plans
Person Requirements
Full-time availability (8:30-3:30, Monday to Friday)
Experience of working with young people with challenging backgrounds
Dependable and realisable – high personal attendance records
Ability to understand and empathise with young people
Ability to build strong and trusting relationships with young people
Ability to remain calm, patient, and consistent in demanding situations
Strong communication and teamwork skills
