Connect Legal Partners is recruiting a Legal Support Assistant - Residential Property for a well-established regional law firm in Shrewsbury. This is a full-time, permanent opportunity paying £24,600-£26,700 per annum, depending on experience for 36.25 hours per week.
A hands-on legal-support position helping a busy residential property team progress transactions accurately from initial instruction to post-completion. You will work closely with experienced fee earners, keep files and deadlines under control and provide a professional first point of contact for clients and third parties.
What you will do
- Manage diaries, appointments, client communications and routine departmental enquiries.
- Open, prepare, maintain and close files in line with approved procedures.
- Draft routine correspondence, prepare forms and bundles, and keep electronic records complete and current.
- Take accurate instructions and messages, provide updates within your authority and escalate legal questions to the supervising fee earner.
- Track deadlines, outstanding documents and follow-up actions so matters continue to progress.
- Record time accurately and support billing, payments and disbursement administration where required.
- Submit Land Registry searches accurately and retain evidence on the matter file.
- Complete Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) forms using verified transaction information.
- Maintain accurate control of disbursements, payments and balances.
- Complete post-completion formalities without avoidable prompting, including LTT/SDLT returns and Land Registry applications.
- Support completions, prepare online forms and registration applications, and keep clients updated within the agreed remit.
What we are looking for
- Applications are suitable for candidates with residential conveyancing support experience and for strong high-level administrators who can demonstrate excellent accuracy, client service and the capacity to learn quickly.
- Excellent attention to detail, organisation and time management.
- Clear, confident and professional communication by telephone, email and in person.
- A proactive approach, sound judgement and the discipline to follow processes and escalate appropriately.
- Confidence using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook and learning legal case-management systems.
- Five GCSEs at grade 4/C or above including English and Mathematics, plus three A levels or equivalent.
- A law/business degree, CILEX study, previous legal support and case-management experience are desirable rather than automatic requirements.
