Schools Mutual Services is working in partnership with secondary schools and academy trusts across the Black Country, including Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton, to recruit enthusiastic and reliable Cover Supervisors for daily and long term assignments starting in September 2026.
No teaching qualification is required. If you have relevant experience working with young people and excellent communication skills, we'd love to hear from you.

The Role
As a Cover Supervisor, you'll play an important role in supporting secondary schools by supervising classes during teacher absences and ensuring pupils remain engaged in their learning.
You will deliver pre-set work provided by teaching staff and maintain a positive, well-managed learning environment across a variety of subjects.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supervising whole classes during teacher absence
- Delivering pre-prepared lessons and classroom activities
- Managing classroom behaviour in line with school policies
- Ensuring pupils remain focused and engaged throughout lessons
- Providing support and guidance where appropriate
- Reporting back to teaching staff on pupil progress and behaviour
- Following school safeguarding and behaviour procedures
- Building positive relationships with pupils and staff
- Supporting departments during longer-term placements where required
What we're looking for
We're looking for confident, reliable individuals who enjoy working with young people and can build positive relationships within school environments.
You do not need a teaching qualification to apply.
You should have:
- Experience working with young people in an educational, coaching, youth work, tutoring or similar setting
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Confidence managing groups of students
- Good classroom or behaviour management skills
- A calm, professional and adaptable approach
- Strong organisational skills
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
- The ability to quickly adapt to different schools and classroom environments
