The Assistant General Manager is responsible for supporting the General Manager in the day-to-day operation of the business, ensuring exceptional customer service, high operational standards, legal compliance, profitability, and the effective management of the team. The AGM leads by example, takes responsibility in the absence of the General Manager, and helps create a positive, welcoming environment for both customers and staff. Please note that most shifts for this role are later starts with closes, split shifts and weekends.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
- Support, coach and motivate the management and front of house teams.
- Lead shifts confidently, ensuring excellent customer service at all times.
- Assist with recruitment, onboarding and training of new team members.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching.
- Deal professionally with staff concerns and customer complaints.
- Promote a positive, inclusive and respectful working environment.
- Encourage teamwork, accountability and high morale.
Operations
- Ensure smooth day-to-day running of the pub.
- Open and close the premises in accordance with company procedures.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness throughout all customer and staff areas.
- Carry out daily operational checks.
- Ensure all opening, closing and cleaning procedures are completed correctly.
- Support stock ordering, deliveries and stock control.
- Monitor wastage and identify opportunities to improve profitability.
- Ensure cellar, bar and kitchen standards are maintained where applicable.
Customer Experience
- Deliver outstanding customer service and lead by example.
- Build relationships with regular customers and the local community.
- Resolve complaints quickly, fairly and professionally.
- Ensure customers receive a warm welcome and leave wanting to return.
- Support events, entertainment evenings and community activities.
Financial Responsibilities
- Assist with cash handling procedures and banking.

- Support local marketing initiatives.
- Promote events and entertainment.

Person Specification
Essential
- Previous supervisory or management experience within hospitality.
- Excellent customer service skills.
