About Recoop:
Recoop supports the care, resettlement and rehabilitation of older individuals impacted by the criminal justice system. As one of the few specialist charities in this field, we provide expertise, peer support and services shaped by the people we work with.
Our Buddy peer support service has been recognised as good practice by HMIP, IMBs and HMPPS. Working nationally, we empower older people within the criminal justice system to improve their wellbeing, regain independence and reduce reoffending.
About the role:
We are looking for the right candidate to support our Service in HMP Garth.The successful candidate will be responsible for the provision of our Buddy Support Worker programme, which trains prisoners to National Care Standards, adapted for use in Prison, to support other prisoners who have health and social care needs.
Key responsibilities
- Promote positive health and wellbeing through person-centred activities that respect individual rights and preferences.
- Keep accurate records, gather monitoring information and produce reports responsibly.
- Work closely with the wider Recoop team, other prison departments and external stakeholders.
- Foster a positive work ethic and team culture.
- Attend relevant meetings and pursue continuous professional development.
- Contribute to innovative service development and champion Recoop's growth and business development.
- Report on progress regularly and stay current with relevant policies.
- Meet safety and risk requirements and fulfil safeguarding responsibilities.
What we are looking for:
Essential
- Ability to build effective relationships and motivate others.
- Experience of delivering services for older people, and of working in criminal justice or social care settings.
- Experience of writing reports, letters and other correspondence.
- High IT literacy and willingness to learn Recoop and prison IT systems.
Desirable
- Knowledge of the voluntary sector and national and local offender management strategies.
- Skilled in training, coaching and presenting. Business development skills, including identifying and developing funding opportunities.
- Experience of supporting people with basic skills.
