Job Overview
In your role as an Assistant Accountant, you will be supporting the finance team and operational managers to provide financial data across a dispersed portfolio of housing for adults with Learning Disabilities and/or Mental Health challenges.
You will maintain an up-to-date purchase ledger and upload cash receipts to ensure work is compliant with internal and external regulatory requirements and good business practice.
Responsibilities
Purchase Ledger
- To maintain an up-to-date purchase ledger
- To ensure that suppliers are paid in accordance with their terms and adhering the First Priority’s Financial Regulations.
- To deal with supplier / contractor queries using the most appropriate method.
- To ensure all council tax positions are up to date utilising payment plans as appropriate
- To ensure Utility accounts are up to date and on appropriate payment plans.
- Reconciliation of supplier / contractor statements as required.
- Preparation of payment runs for approval
- Assist with the maintenance of utility accounts and where necessary update company information.
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness of data input especially if required at month-end.
- Assist with council tax updates and liaising with relevant stakeholders
Cash Day Book
- Provide administrative support to both the Income Management and Finance teams within FPHA.
- This includes a broad range of administrative tasks including data entry, data processing, printing, scanning etc.
- Enter data into our relevant systems in relation to Housing Benefit claims and rent statements.
- Would be desirable if candidate can use pivot tables to review debtor's ledger.
Training
- To undertake additional training that would benefit the post
- Where required to train members of the team or other staff on finance systems and processes
General
- Work within a team, supporting colleagues and attending team meetings, recording and sharing information appropriately and confidentially
- Keep up to date with issues relevant to housing & support, welfare benefits and other relevant legislation
- To undertake all core training required for this post and other training and professional development activities as required
- Undertake other delegated tasks and responsibilities that fall within your capabilities as required
- To always comply with FPHAs’ legal, contractual and regulatory responsibilities in relation to the above duties

Qualifications
- AAT qualification or equivalent or experience and willing to undertake study, may suit a graduate
Skills
Essential you will have:
- Strong communication skills with both colleagues, customers and external stakeholders
- Excellent customer service skills
- Clear and articulate communication both written and verbal
- Able to work well under pressure, working to deadlines.
- Intermediate Excel and IT skills
- A working knowledge of Reconciliations, use and interpretation of management information and KPIs
Ideally you will have:
- Experience of working in the Housing sector (or similar)
- Working knowledge of current service charge legislation application to Housing Associations
- Audit experience
