ROLE PURPOSE:
To provide day-to-day supervision and technical support to the engineering team whilst remaining actively involved in the delivery of planned preventative maintenance, reactive maintenance and remedial works across a portfolio of facilities.
The role requires a strong commercial gas background, with responsibility for supporting the safe and compliant delivery of gas maintenance activities, providing technical guidance to engineers, monitoring standards of workmanship and ensuring works are completed in accordance with contract requirements, statutory legislation and GSH Group procedures.
The Working Supervisor will act as a key link between the engineering team, Contract Manager, helpdesk and client representatives, taking an active role in planning and coordinating engineering workloads, identifying and developing quotations for remedial and additional works, and ensuring works are effectively communicated, completed and accurately recorded within the company CAFM system.

Ensure appropriate gas safety documentation and certification is completed accurately
Support the investigation and reporting of accidents, incidents, near misses and technical non-conformances
Report hazards, defects and compliance concerns promptly to the Contract Manager
Adhere to environmental policies and promote good environmental practices
RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:
Provide day-to-day supervision, technical support and guidance to engineers and subcontractors working across the contract
Remain hands-on within the operation, undertaking planned preventative maintenance, reactive maintenance, fault finding and repairs as required
Service, maintain, diagnose and repair commercial gas-fired plant and associated systems, including commercial boilers, burners, heating systems, gas controls and associated equipment
Ensure all commercial gas works are undertaken safely and in accordance with current legislation, Gas Safe requirements, manufacturer instructions and GSH Group procedures
Plan, allocate, prioritise and coordinate PPM, reactive and remedial works across the engineering team, working with the Contract Manager and contract administration team to ensure resources are effectively utilised and contractual requirements are achieved
Monitor progress of engineering activities and ensure PPM and reactive tasks are completed within agreed contractual timescales
Provide technical assistance to engineers when diagnosing faults or resolving complex maintenance issues
Review completed work to ensure appropriate standards of workmanship, compliance and documentation are maintained
Ensure gas certification, service records, test results and other statutory documentation are completed accurately and retained appropriately
Carry out quality checks and support technical audits of completed works, within their level of competence and authority, as directed by the Contract Manager
Identify defects, lifecycle issues, additional works and opportunities for improvement, determine the appropriate next action and escalate significant matters to the Contract Manager as required.
Support the delivery of toolbox talks, safety briefings and technical updates to the engineering team
Promote adherence to risk assessments, method statements, permits to work and site-specific procedures
Accurately complete and review job records, reports and supporting documentation using the company CAFM system, SimPRO
Monitor outstanding jobs and support engineers in ensuring jobs are appropriately updated and closed within SimPRO
Liaise effectively with the helpdesk and contract administration team regarding work allocation, engineer attendance, progress, follow-on works and job completion
Liaise professionally with client representatives and building users, providing updates where required and ensuring disruption is kept to a minimum
Prepare and raise quotations for remedial and additional works, including identifying labour, materials, subcontractor requirements and other associated costs, in accordance with company commercial procedures and delegated authority
Support the management and coordination of subcontractors where required, ensuring appropriate documentation and standards are maintained
Assist with emergency situations and participate in the contract on-call rota as required
Ensure company vehicles, tools, equipment and other company-issued assets are maintained in a safe, clean and serviceable condition
Represent GSH Group professionally at all times and promote high standards of customer service across the engineering team
Comply with all company policies, procedures, risk assessments and method statements

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Essential:
Recognised apprenticeship or equivalent qualification within mechanical, heating, building services or gas engineering
Current Commercial Gas Safe qualifications and competencies appropriate to the commercial gas appliances and systems to be maintained under the contract
Proven experience working on commercial gas-fired plant and heating systems
Strong knowledge of commercial gas safety, combustion, servicing, fault finding and associated statutory requirements
Proven experience undertaking planned preventative and reactive maintenance within a facilities management or building services environment
Previous supervisory, team leader or senior engineer experience
Ability to provide technical guidance and support to other engineers
Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
Ability to review technical documentation, service records and gas certification for accuracy and completeness
Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise engineering workloads and respond to changing operational requirements
Strong communication and customer service skills
Familiarity with CAFM systems and electronic job management
Ability to survey, scope and prepare quotations for remedial and additional works, including labour, material and subcontractor requirements
Full UK driving licence
Desirable:
Domestic gas qualifications in addition to commercial gas qualifications
LPG qualifications and experience
Experience working with oil-fired heating systems
Experience of supervising mobile engineering teams across multiple locations
Experience of carrying out technical audits and quality inspections
Experience of delivering toolbox talks and technical briefings
Familiarity with SimPRO
Experience working in occupied, educational, public sector or other live environments
LINES OF COMMUNICATION:
Report directly to the Contract Manager
Provide day-to-day direction and technical support to engineers working across the contract
Liaise daily with the helpdesk and contract administration team regarding work allocation, job progress and completion
Liaise with client representatives regarding operational and technical matters as required
Co-operate with other supervisors, engineers, subcontractors and GSH Group support teams
Escalate health and safety, compliance, technical or operational issues promptly to the Contract Manager
ANY OTHER DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
Flexibility to work overtime when required
Willingness to participate in an on-call rota and provide supervisory support during emergency situations
Flexibility to travel between contract locations as required
Provide cover and additional technical support across the contract where operationally necessary
Assist with the induction and development of new engineers and apprentices where required
Support continuous improvement initiatives and the development of engineering standards across the contract
Ability to undertake vetting and provide appropriate identification for work in secure or sensitive environments
Undertake any other reasonable duties appropriate to the position of Working Supervisor as requested by the Contract Manager
Survey and scope remedial and additional works identified through PPM, reactive maintenance, client requests and site inspections
Obtain supplier and subcontractor costs where required and ensure quotations contain sufficient technical detail to clearly define the proposed scope of works
Monitor outstanding quotations and support the Contract Manager and administration team with progressing approved works through to planning and delivery
