Transport Development Inspector (Interim)
Supporting Highway Construction, Development Inspection & Compliance
We're recruiting an experienced and proactive Transport Development Inspector (Interim) to join a busy local authority team, supporting the delivery and inspection of highway construction and development projects. This role is key to ensuring construction works are completed in accordance with approved designs, highway standards, technical specifications and quality requirements.
This role is ideal for a confident and technically experienced individual with a strong background in highway construction, development inspection or civil engineering, who can effectively monitor contractors and identify compliance issues.
About the Role:
As the Transport Development Inspector, you'll be responsible for supporting the Senior Development Engineer with inspections, assessments and audits of highway construction projects. You'll act in a Clerk of Works capacity, monitoring contractors' work and ensuring projects are delivered to the required standards.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Supporting the Senior Development Engineer with inspections, assessments and audits of highway construction projects
- Acting as an Inspector in a Clerk of Works capacity
- Monitoring contractors' work to ensure projects are delivered in accordance with approved designs and highway standards
- Checking compliance with technical specifications, quality requirements and relevant highway standards
- Ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation, including CDM regulations
- Liaising professionally with contractors, developers, their agents and internal colleagues
- Identifying and reporting issues or non-compliance promptly
- Preparing clear and timely inspection and progress reports
- Supporting effective communication between contractors, developers and internal teams
- Providing additional technical and inspection support as required within the team
Requirements:
We're looking for a reliable, technically experienced and organised individual who can work confidently within a local authority environment while supporting highway construction inspection, compliance and reporting activities.
Must-Have Requirements:
- Relevant experience in highway construction, development inspection or a similar civil engineering environment
- Experience monitoring construction works and checking compliance with technical specifications and standards
- Good understanding of highway construction practices and quality requirements
- Knowledge of health and safety requirements, including CDM regulations
- Strong communication and reporting skills
- Ability to work effectively with contractors, developers and internal teams
- Current CV
- Availability to attend an interview
Nice-to-Have Requirements:
- Previous experience working in a Clerk of Works or local authority environment
- Experience inspecting highway development projects from construction through to completion
- Relevant civil engineering or highway-related qualifications
