This is a new post within the Oncology / Haematology departments at The West Middlesex Hospital. The job is fixed term for 12 months.
The post holder will support the haematology & oncology teams on the chemotherapy day unit in the new Diagnostic, Treatment & Education Centre (DTEC). It is expected that the DTEC will open in November 2026.
The post would be suitable for post IMT trainees keen to gain additional haemato-oncology experience prior to obtaining a National Training Number (NTN)
The post holder will work on the Chemotherapy Day Unit from 09.00hr-17.00hr Monday to Friday. There is no on-call commitment to this post. A reduced timetable would need to be requested prior to appointment for consideration by the Cancer lead, but the Trust supports opportunities around flexible working
There will be a detailed induction and ongoing support for haemato-oncology specific knowledge, however much of the role will utilise general medical knowledge and skills.

- This post will be largely based on the Chemotherapy Day Unit to ensure safe administration of systemic therapies and supportive therapies to the Haematology / Oncology patients.
- The post-holder will be expected to participate in clinical and other service activities with the object of ensuring a high standard of patient care
- They will participate in undergraduate and post graduate teaching & training. There is regular Trust-based teaching, Grand Rounds, Clinical fellow teaching & oncology / haematology teaching
- To undertake Trust mandatory training & resuscitation training

- Review & assessment of haemato-oncology patients with a range of malignancies attending for systemic therapy if required by the nursing staff. Effective, timely review on the Day Unit will ensure patient flows are maintained for systemic therapy delivery or referral for in-patient admission
- Evaluating fitness for systemic therapy, prescribing supportive therapies and managing side-effects of therapies.
- Managing cancer-related emergencies, such as treatment toxicities (e.g neutropenic sepsis) or complications of cancer (e.g spinal cord compression, hypercalcaemia)
- Liaising with Acute oncology, emergency department and inpatient ward teams to facilitate patient transfers when required.
- Telephone triage and follow up of haemato-oncology patients attending the Chemotherapy Day Unit or Ambulatory Care
- Assisting consultants & SpRs in performing specialised procedures such as bone marrow biopsies & lumbar punctures
- Supervising and teaching junior doctors and medical students, while continuing to advance their own specialised training
- Work within a multidisciplinary team environment to ensure seamless, efficient patient care with clear communication & documentation
