Job Description of Business Development Manager
Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Identify and develop new business opportunities with suppliers, distributors, and commercial partners in the UK and international markets.
- Build and maintain strong relationship with existing and prospective clients, suppliers, and stakeholders.
- Conduct market research and competitor analysis to identify emerging trends and growth opportunities within the Asian Food and Grocery and FMCG sectors.
- Develop and implement strategic business development plans to increase sales revenue and market share across retail branches, online platforms, and newly developed B2B channels.
- Lead and demonstrate strategic vision for the establishment and expansion of the company's new B2B business sector.
- Create new strategic plans and commercial frameworks to support the company's entry into the B2B market from the ground up.
- Develop tactical implementation steps and oversee operational challenges to successfully achieve the company's B2B expansion goals.
- Negotiate commercial agreements, pricing structures, and partnership contracts with suppliers and business partners.
- Collaborate with marketing, purchasing, and operations team to support new product launches and promotional campaigns.
- Monitor sales performance, prepare business reports, forecast, and performance analyses for senior management.
- Attend trade exhibitions, networking events, and industry meetings to promote the company's products and services.
- Support the expansion of retail, wholesale, online, and B2B business channels across the UK and Europe.
- Ensure all business activities comply with company policies and relevant UK regulations.
Essential Requirements
- Equivalent qualification in Business, Marketing, International Trade, Management, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years experience in business development, sales management, commercial strategy, or related business leadership roles.
- Must have a strong background and proven working experience within the Asian Food and Grocery industry, including Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Southeast Asian products.
- Possess in-depth market knowledge, strong commercial awareness, and practical understanding of customer demand, product positioning, and industry trends.
- Demonstrate strong sales instincts and purchasing planning capabilities, with the ability to identify profitable product opportunities and develop effective commercial strategies.
- Ability to analyse market trends, customer, behaviour, and supplier performance to support strategic sales growth and inventory planning.
- Proven experience in developing new business strategies and leading commercial growth initiatives.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to build and maintain commercial relationships.
- Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM systems.
- Fluency in English is a must, Chinese language skills would be preferred.
Durable Skills
- Experience working within the Asian supermarket, import/export, or food retail industry.
- Knowledge of international supply chains and sourcing operations.
- Experience managing B2B partnerships, wholesale development, and supplier negotiations.
- Experience launching or expanding new commericial business sectors.
Location: Colchester, London Region (London Dock, Wandsworth, Fulham)
Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Salary: from £ 56,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience
