As the business continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced Part-Time Financial Controller to help us strengthen our finance function, improve our reporting, and support better commercial decision-making across pricing, budgeting, margins and product profitability.
The Role
We are looking for an experienced Part-Time Financial Controller to support our growing beer wholesale business.
This is a flexible, part-time role working 3 days per week from 10:00am to 2:00pm, ideal for someone who wants a senior finance role with reduced hours.
The role will focus on overseeing the finance function, improving financial controls, managing cashflow, reviewing financial reports and giving clear commercial insight to the business owner/directors.
A key part of the role will also be helping us understand the profitability of our products. We need someone who can help set pricing, review product margins, build budgets, analyse costs and make sure our pricing decisions are commercially sound.
You will work closely with the business owner/directors to provide practical financial guidance that supports growth, profitability and better decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review monthly management accounts
- Monitor cashflow and produce cashflow forecasts
- Review profit and loss, balance sheet, margins and key financial performance
- Help set and review product pricing across beer, kegs, equipment and related services
- Analyse product profitability and gross margins
- Build and maintain budgets for products, departments and the wider business
- Review cost prices, selling prices, supplier costs and delivery costs to ensure products are priced correctly
- Identify low-margin or loss-making products and recommend improvements
- Support pricing decisions for wholesale customers, events, offices and home customers
- Provide financial insight on stock, purchasing, wastage, delivery costs and supplier terms
- Help create simple commercial reports showing sales, margins, costs and profitability by product or customer type
- Oversee bookkeeping, bank reconciliations, VAT, payroll and finance processes
- Work with external accountants where required
- Ensure invoices, payments, expenses and financial records are accurate
- Improve financial controls and reporting processes
- Provide clear financial advice and insight to support business decisions
- Help with budgeting, forecasting and cost control
- Support year-end accounts preparation
Pricing, Budgeting and Commercial Support
This role is not just about reporting historic numbers. We are looking for someone who can help us use financial information to make better decisions.
You will help us answer questions such as:
- Are our products priced correctly?
- Which products are making the strongest margins?
- Which products are tying up too much cash or stock?
- Are delivery, supplier and handling costs being properly built into pricing?
- What margins should we be targeting?
- Where are we losing profit?
- What should our monthly and annual budgets look like?
- How can we improve cashflow and profitability as the business grows?
The right person will be confident taking financial data and turning it into practical advice that helps the business owner make clear, commercial decisions.
About You
The ideal candidate will have experience in a Financial Controller, Finance Manager, Commercial Finance Manager or senior finance role.
You should be confident working independently and able to give practical, commercial financial guidance to a growing business. Experience in wholesale, drinks, FMCG, hospitality, stock-based businesses, ecommerce, distribution or product-led businesses would be especially useful.
You will be organised, detail-focused and comfortable working with business owners or senior management. You should be able to explain financial information clearly without overcomplicating it.
Requirements
- Previous experience as a Financial Controller, Finance Manager, Commercial Finance Manager or similar
- Strong understanding of management accounts, cashflow and financial controls
- Experience with pricing, budgeting, margins and product profitability
- Ability to analyse product costs, selling prices and gross margins
- Experience with stock, wholesale, distribution, ecommerce, FMCG or hospitality would be beneficial
- Experience with bookkeeping systems such as Xero, QuickBooks, Sage or similar
- Good knowledge of VAT, payroll and year-end processes
- Ability to explain financial information clearly and commercially
- Qualified, part-qualified or qualified by experience candidates will be considered
- Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills would be useful

This role is 3 days per week, working:
10:00am–2:00pm
Total hours: 12 hours per week
Once training is complete, the role can be worked flexibly from home or in the office, depending on what works best for the business and the successful candidate.
Salary
The salary is:
£16,000 per year pro rata
This is based on a £50,000 full-time equivalent salary.
