We have a fantastic opportunity for a friendly, motivated and enthusiastic Leisure Attendant to join our team at Mercure Barnsley Tankersley Manor Hotel & Spa.

The Role
As a Leisure Attendant, you’ll be at the heart of our leisure operation, helping to create a safe, clean, welcoming and enjoyable environment for our guests and members.
This is a varied, hands-on role. One moment you could be welcoming a member or assisting a spa guest, and the next you could be supervising the pool, completing water testing, helping in the gym or responding to a membership enquiry.
We’re looking for someone who is confident and comfortable talking to people, takes pride in maintaining high standards and has the initiative to see what needs doing and get stuck in.
You’ll also play an important role in helping us grow and retain our leisure membership, providing a great member experience while supporting membership enquiries, sales and administration.
What You’ll Be Doing
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Providing a warm and professional welcome to leisure members, hotel guests and spa guests
- Carrying out front-of-house duties, including responding to membership enquiries and booking spa day packages
- Supervising the swimming pool and wet leisure facilities to ensure their safe use
- Carrying out regular pool and water testing, treatment and accurate record keeping
- Following all relevant NOP, EAP and PSOP procedures
- Maintaining excellent standards of cleanliness throughout the poolside, wet facilities, changing rooms, reception and gym
- Cleaning and maintaining leisure equipment
- Supporting membership sales, retention and administration
- Making membership enquiry and administration calls
- Providing assistance within the gym, including inductions and personalised programmes where appropriately qualified
- Supporting opening and closing procedures
- Ensuring health and safety procedures are followed at all times
- Completing periodic deep-cleaning duties
- Assisting with stocktakes when required
- Supporting and hosting member events from time to time
What We’re Looking For
The ideal Leisure Attendant will be positive, proactive, responsible and approachable, with a genuine passion for delivering excellent customer service.
You’ll need:
- Previous experience working in a leisure environment, ideally at least two years
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent customer service skills and a friendly, approachable manner
- Confidence speaking with members, hotel guests and spa guests
- The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- A proactive work ethic and willingness to get involved across the department
- A responsible and safety-conscious approach
- Excellent attention to detail and pride in maintaining a clean, organised environment
- A current Pool Emergency Responder and/or Lifeguard qualification
- Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including evenings and weekends
Desirable Qualifications
The following would be an advantage, although they are not essential:
- Level 2 Fitness Instructor
- Level 3 Personal Trainer
- Pool Plant Operator training/certification
- First Aid certification
Your Working Pattern
This is a part-time position of 24 hours per week, worked across:
- 3 days out of 7
- 8-hour shifts
- Shifts scheduled between 6:00am and 10:30pm
- A mixture of weekday, evening and weekend working
