Summary
Hutton is a popular Voluntary Aided Church of England comprehensive school situated near Preston. The school admits boys only from 11-16 with 670 students currently on roll. The school also has a co-educational Sixth Form which offers a broad range of A level courses and currently has 132 students on roll. The school was judged Good in all areas by Ofsted in May 2022 and received a positive report from SIAMS in January 2026 which recognised that pupils and adults are individually known, nurtured and inspired.
We are looking for a highly capable candidate to assist teachers, other technicians and support staff in the preparation and maintenance of teaching areas, resources and equipment for pupils from 1st September 2026.
The successful candidate will work across the Science and Food and Nutrition departments to support the smooth running of these departments.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to: setting up, cleaning and maintaining equipment for practical experiments; ensuring the safe storage of equipment and supplies (including chemicals); ordering and maintaining department stock; and supporting the department to ensure that relevant health and safety policies and procedures are followed.
The successful candidate will have knowledge and experience of specialist equipment and processes, an awareness of health and safety requirements and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Experience of work in a similar role in a school would be an advantage but is not an essential requirement. A willingness to undertake training relevant to the role is essential.
The hours of work for this post will be between 8:00am and 4.00pm Monday to Friday, during term time only. The exact start and finish times will be agreed with the successful candidate on appointment.

This position is part time, term time only, please note the salary quoted is full time equivalent. If successful, the salary received will be paid on a pro rata basis.

Essential Qualifications
- Minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grade C or above (or equivalent), which must include English, Maths and Science.
Desirable Experience
- Experience of working in a classroom environment
- Experience of working in a scientific environment
- Experience of working with food and an understanding of food hygiene and nutrition.
