Production Shift Manager | Food Manufacturing
Location: Peterborough
Shift: Rotating weekly shift pattern (6-2, 2-10, 10-6)
Benefits: 10% matched pension + 25 days holiday + bank holidays
Running a production shift is about far more than hitting the numbers. It's people, problems, priorities and performance, usually all at the same time. If that sounds like your kind of environment, keep reading.
This is a senior production leadership role within a food manufacturing business going through a major period of transformation and expansion. There's investment, change and plenty still to improve, making it a great time to join for someone who wants genuine influence over how a production operation develops.
Reporting into the Operations Manager, you'll have full accountability for your production area and the people within it. You'll own delivery of the production plan, OTIF, labour and resource planning, performance, quality and safety, working through your Team Leaders to keep the shift moving. When machinery, materials or production issues threaten the plan, you'll be expected to make decisions, get the right people involved and keep things on track.
Continuous improvement will be a big part of the job. You'll use KPIs and production data to understand performance, tackle material variances and root causes, reduce waste and downtime and identify better ways of working. Just as importantly, you'll build and develop your team, manage performance, identify training needs and create a culture where people are comfortable challenging the status quo.
To be successful, you'll need proven production leadership experience within a manufacturing environment, ideally food or FMCG, with experience managing people, resources and automated production lines. You'll understand Lean and continuous improvement, be comfortable making data-led decisions and have the confidence to lead in a fast-paced environment where priorities can change quickly. IOSH, HACCP Level 2, ILM Level 3 and experience with SAP or Infor M3 would all be advantageous.
If you're already managing a shift and want to join a business with serious growth plans, or you're an experienced Production Team Leader ready to take that next step into broader operational leadership, this could be a brilliant move.
