As a community sports centre and registered charity, we welcome thousands of visitors each month. Clean, safe and well-presented facilities are at the heart of the experience we provide, and we're looking for someone who takes real pride in maintaining high standards.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working independently, has a keen eye for detail and understands the importance of cleanliness in a busy public environment.
What you'll be doing:
You'll play an important role in ensuring our facilities are clean, welcoming and ready for customers each day.
Typical duties include:
- Cleaning changing rooms, toilets and shower areas
- Vacuuming, mopping and maintaining floors
- Cleaning the gym, café and reception areas
- Emptying bins and replenishing consumables
- Cleaning offices and staff areas
- Reporting maintenance issues or damage
- Ensuring high hygiene standards are maintained throughout the Centre
- Working safely and following cleaning procedures

Previous cleaning experience is desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided.

Job Description
Job Title: Cleaner
Responsible to: Facilities Operations Lead / Deputy Manager / General Manager
Hours: 12 hours per week (Early mornings). Additional hours may be available.
Overall Purpose:
To maintain consistently high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and presentation throughout Wensum Sports Centre, ensuring customers enjoy a safe, welcoming and professional environment.
The postholder will work independently to complete scheduled cleaning tasks before the Centre opens and report any maintenance or health and safety concerns identified during their duties.
Main Responsibilities
- Clean all customer-facing areas to a consistently high standard.
- Clean toilets, changing rooms and shower facilities.
- Clean the gym, reception, café, sports hall and circulation areas.
- Vacuum, mop and maintain floors.
- Empty bins and dispose of waste appropriately.
- Replenish consumables including soap, toilet roll and paper towels.
- Carry out periodic deep cleaning tasks.
- Follow cleaning schedules and procedures.
- Report defects, maintenance issues or health and safety concerns.
- Ensure equipment is used safely and stored correctly.
- Contribute to maintaining a welcoming environment for all visitors.
