Maintenance Assistant – Job Description
(Working alongside the Premises Manager)
Responsibilities:
- Support the Premises Manager in maintaining the cleanliness, safety and organisation of the nursery premises.
- Carry out routine maintenance tasks including legionella checks, health and safety checks, fire safety checks, and general site inspections.
- Assist with minor repairs such as fixing broken items, changing lightbulbs, assembling furniture and completing day‑to‑day maintenance tasks as directed.
- Ensure equipment, tools and supplies are stored safely and maintained in good working order.
- Monitor the site for any maintenance issues and promptly report them to the Premises Manager.
- Support with basic gardening, outdoor upkeep and general grounds maintenance.
- Provide practical assistance to staff, contractors and visitors when required, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment.
Requirements:
- Previous experience in maintenance or a similar practical role.
- Basic knowledge of cleaning methods, maintenance techniques and use of relevant tools/equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions from the Premises Manager.
- Good time‑management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
- Clear communication skills and a positive, cooperative approach to working as part of a team.
