At Orchard Cambridge Nursery, part of Inspired Learning Group, our kitchen is at the heart of nursery life. We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Nursery Chef to join our team and take responsibility for the preparation of fresh, nutritious and well-balanced meals and snacks for our children and staff.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a Chef who takes pride in their work and enjoys working in a busy, well-equipped kitchen as part of a supportive nursery team.
What you'll be doing
As our Nursery Chef, you'll take ownership of the nursery kitchen and be responsible for:
- Preparing and cooking fresh, healthy and nutritious meals and snacks.
- Planning varied and appealing menus suitable for young children.
- Catering for allergies, intolerances, special dietary requirements and individual preferences.
- Ordering food and managing stock within agreed budget guidelines.
- Checking deliveries to ensure food is fresh, high quality and meets required standards.
- Maintaining accurate records including food temperatures, allergen information and cleaning schedules.
- Following all food hygiene, health and safety and allergen management procedures.
- Maintaining excellent standards of cleanliness throughout the kitchen and food preparation areas.
- Ensuring food is stored, prepared and served safely.
- Managing stock effectively and minimising food waste.
- Working closely with the nursery team to support positive and enjoyable mealtimes.
- Supporting the nursery's approach to healthy eating and nutrition.
What we're looking for
We're looking for someone who is qualified, organised and passionate about food, with the ability to work independently and take pride in maintaining a high standard of kitchen management.
You will ideally have:
- Level 2 qualification in Food Preparation/Cookery or equivalent.
- Food Hygiene qualification/certificate.
- Previous experience working as a Chef or Cook.
- Experience in a nursery, school, childcare setting or similar environment is desirable.
- A good understanding of food hygiene, health and safety and allergen management.
- Knowledge of nutrition and healthy eating for young children.
- Experience preparing food for allergies and special dietary requirements.
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
- The ability to manage stock and work within a budget.
- A friendly, positive and reliable approach.
- A strong commitment to maintaining a clean, safe and well-organised kitchen.
