Join our growing glass processing team as a Lean Manufacturing Apprentice. Gain hands-on experience manufacturing sealed units, mirrors, laminated and single glazing products while earning a recognised qualification. Develop practical skills, work with experienced colleagues and build a long-term career in manufacturing.
You will learn:
- As a Lean Manufacturing Apprentice, you will work alongside experienced members of our production team and receive full training in all aspects of our glass processing operation. Your day-to-day duties will include:
- Assisting with the manufacture of sealed units, mirrors, laminated glass and single glazing products.
- Learning to safely operate glass processing machinery and equipment under supervision.
- Measuring, handling and inspecting glass to ensure products meet quality standards.
- Preparing finished products for dispatch via our own delivery fleet and pallet distribution network. ·
- Maintaining a clean, safe and organised work area in line with Lean Manufacturing and 5S principles.
- Following production schedules and work instructions to meet customer deadlines. ·
- Completing quality checks and reporting any defects or issues. ·
- Learning about stock control, material handling and warehouse operations. · Working closely with colleagues across production and logistics as part of a busy manufacturing team.
- Taking part in continuous improvement activities to help reduce waste, improve efficiency and support business performance.
- Completing your Level 2 Lean Manufacturing Operative apprenticeship, including off-the-job training and workplace assessments. Throughout the apprenticeship, you will develop practical manufacturing skills, gain a recognised qualification and build the knowledge needed for a long-term career within the glass processing industry.

This is a physically active role within a busy glass processing and manufacturing environment. The successful applicant will be required to stand for long periods, carry out manual handling tasks and safely lift and move large, heavy sheets of glass using appropriate lifting equipment and safe handling techniques. Full training will be provided in manual handling, glass handling procedures and the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE). The role requires a strong commitment to health and safety, reliability and punctuality. Applicants should ensure they can travel to our site each day, as early start times may be require
Apprenticeship Qualification
Lean Manufacturing Operative level 2
Hours
7am – 4pm Monday – Friday ( 1 hour break in the day )
40 hours a week
Training
The successful candidate will work towards a Level 2 Lean Manufacturing Operative Apprenticeship Standard. Training will be delivered through a combination of practical, on-the-job learning at our glass processing facility and off-the-job training with our apprenticeship training provider. The apprentice will be supported by an experienced workplace mentor throughout the programme.
- Training will include:
- Lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement.
- Safe working practices and health & safety.
- Manufacturing processes and quality assurance.
- Team working, communication and problem-solving.
- Efficient production techniques and waste reduction. The apprentice will attend one day per week (or as agreed with the training provider) for off-the-job training at the provider's training centre or online, with the remainder of the week spent gaining practical experience in the workplace. On successful completion of the programme, the apprentice will achieve the Level 2 Lean Manufacturing Operative Apprenticeship Standard
Other requirements
- Essential
- GCSE Grade 4/C (or equivalent) in English and Maths, or a willingness to work towards achieving these qualifications if required by the apprenticeship standard.
- A genuine interest in manufacturing and learning new practical skills.
- Desirable
- GCSE Grade 4/C or above in Design & Technology, Engineering, Science or a related subject. ·
- Previous work experience, school work placement or part-time employment in a practical or manufacturing environment. ·
- Basic IT skills.

After this apprenticeship
Successful completion of the apprenticeship could lead to a permanent position within our manufacturing team. As skills and experience develop, there will be opportunities to progress into specialist glass processing roles, machine operation, quality control, warehouse and logistics, or team leader positions.
