About the role
We're looking for a degree-level Electro-Mechanical Design Engineer to join our R&D team, designing precision measurement systems and test rigs from first concept through to a working, tested product. You'll own hardware design projects end-to-end (research, concepts, prototyping, drawings, specifications, and testing), working closely with our software team and the wider business.
This is a hands-on role in a small, close-knit company: you'll see your designs through the full lifecycle, including getting involved in building and testing early production units as we scale up (particularly in the first period of the role), and occasionally supporting installation or servicing of systems you've designed, including some UK/international travel.
What you'll do
- Design precision measurement systems and test rigs, following our hardware development process from concept through to delivery
- Produce design concepts, drawings, specifications, resource estimates, and test plans
- Prototype, assemble, and test your own designs as part of an iterative design process
- Take part in design reviews and contribute to how we develop hardware
- Get hands-on with building and testing systems, especially early on, helping establish robust production processes as we grow
- Occasionally support servicing, installation, or customer training for systems you've designed
- Contribute to a small, collaborative engineering team and a positive company culture
What we're looking for
- Degree in electro-mechanical, mechanical, automation engineering, metrology or similar discipline (essential)
- Proven experience across the full electro-mechanical design lifecycle: concept, CAD (SolidWorks or similar), prototyping, and commissioning
- Comfortable in working hands-on as well as in 3D CAD - this isn't a design-only desk job
- Eligible to live and work in the UK
- Willingness to travel occasionally (UK, Europe, USA) at relatively short notice
- Precision engineering, metrology, or scientific instrument experience is a strong plus but not essential
- Enjoys the pace and variety of a small company, where you'll wear more than one hat

- The chance to own projects end-to-end in a business where your design work has direct, visible impact
- A varied role for someone who wants more than pure CAD work
