Next Step
If you are an experienced TA or education professional with a calm, supportive approach and availability across two afternoons per week, we would welcome your application.
Home-School Tutoring Sussex and Kent is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and we expect all our self-employed tutors and contractors to share this commitment.
As a trusted provider of education services, we strictly adhere to safer recruitment practices to ensure the safety of our students and to provide rigorous vetting assurances to our commissioning schools and parents.
The specific safeguarding responsibilities associated with this tutoring role, including the extent to which it involves contact with children and whether it constitutes 'regulated activity', are explicitly detailed in the attached role description and person specification.
All successful applicants will be subject to a stringent safer recruitment process. We make it categorically clear that comprehensive pre-appointment safeguarding checks will be undertaken before you are allowed to commence tutoring.
This will include identity and professional qualification checks, as well as obtaining an Enhanced DBS certificate (which will include a check of the children’s barred list, as the role involves engaging in regulated activity with children).
Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974 Please note that this tutoring post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974.
Therefore, all prospective candidates will be required to declare relevant criminal history. However, the amendments to the ROA 1974 (Exceptions Order 1975, amended in 2013 and 2020) provide that certain spent convictions and cautions are 'protected’.
This means they do not need to be disclosed to employers, and if they are disclosed, we cannot take them into account during the selection process.
For further information on which convictions must be declared during your application, please refer to the Ministry of Justice’s guidance on the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the Exceptions Order 1975, as well as the DBS filtering guide.
