Join our team at CAPE at Birkenhead High School Academy as a Childcare Assistant and play a vital role in nurturing and supporting the development of young children. In this energetic position, you will create a safe, engaging, and positive environment where children between the ages of 3 and 12 years can learn, explore, and grow. Your enthusiasm and dedication will help foster a sense of trust and excitement for early childhood, making a meaningful difference in the lives of children and their families.
These positions are for 15 hours per weeks Term Time Only (Monday to Friday 3pm to 6pm, within the After Schools Club), however we can be flexible and this can be done as a job share, so may suit a University Student or as additional employment.
We offer a CDP Enhancement Scheme, which offers funded Childcare Training and additional financial rewards and on site development. This scheme will assist in your self development and can be used to expand your CV.
Responsibilities
- Assist lead caregivers in implementing daily activities that promote social, emotional, and cognitive development
- Support children during playtime, ensuring safety and encouraging positive interactions
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming environment for children to explore freely
- Observe children’s behavior and developmental progress, reporting any concerns to senior staff promptly
- Engage with children through storytelling, arts and crafts, outdoor activities, and educational games
- Support snack preparations while encouraging healthy eating habits
- Follow all safety protocols and Safeguarding regulations to ensure a secure setting for every child
Skills
- Passionate about working with children
- Excellent communication skills to connect effectively with children, parents, and team members
- Ability to remain patient, attentive, and energetic throughout busy days
- Basic knowledge of child safety standards and first aid procedures (certification preferred) but not essential
- Flexibility to adapt to changing needs within a dynamic childcare environment
- Previous experience working with young children is a plus but not required; training provided
