The Role
We are seeking an experienced, commercially driven and people-focused Head of Sales to lead and develop our sales function across both wholesale and retail channels.
This is a senior leadership role responsible for driving sustainable revenue growth, strengthening customer relationships and developing a high-performing sales culture aligned with the values and reputation of Frank P Matthews.
The successful candidate will combine strategic thinking with a hands-on approach, working closely with directors and operational teams to deliver ambitious commercial goals while maintaining exceptional customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
Sales Leadership & Strategy
- Develop and implement the company’s sales strategy across trade, retail and online channels
- Drive revenue growth and profitability across all product categories
- Identify new market opportunities, customer sectors and growth areas
- Contribute to wider commercial and business planning
Team Management
- Lead, motivate and develop the sales team
- Set targets, KPIs and performance standards
- Support recruitment, onboarding and ongoing training
- Foster a collaborative, customer-focused sales culture
Customer Relationships
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers, landscapers, garden centres, developers and commercial buyers
- Support major account management and strategic partnerships
- Ensure high standards of customer service and communication
Commercial Performance
- Monitor sales performance, forecasts and margins
- Analyse sales data and market trends to inform decision-making
- Work closely with production and operations teams to align supply and demand
- Support pricing strategies and stock planning
Marketing & Brand Collaboration
- Work alongside marketing to support campaigns, promotions and product launches
- Help strengthen the Frank P Matthews brand within the horticultural industry
- Represent the business at trade shows, events and industry functions
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Proven experience in a senior sales leadership role
- Strong commercial awareness and strategic thinking
- Experience managing and developing sales teams
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments
- Strong organisational and analytical skills
Desirable
- Experience within horticulture, nursery stock, agriculture or a related industry
- Knowledge of wholesale and retail sales channels
- CRM and sales reporting experience
- Passion for trees, plants and the horticultural sector

Pay: £50,000.00-£65,000.00 per year
