Housing Officer
Welwyn Garden City based, with a balance of home and office working
£35,947 - £37,839 per year plus £600 car allowance
37.5 hours per week – Monday to Friday – 9:00am to 5:00pm
We have an opportunity for a Housing Officer to join our Housing team, based in Welwyn Garden City. As a Housing Officer you will be responsible for the management of a patch of social housing properties and tenancies in the Hertfordshire and West Essex areas. This will involve making sure that our properties are safe and attractive places to live and ensuring that tenancies are being conducted in a satisfactory way. The role includes void management, compliance responsibilities, anti-social behavior management and the full range of housing management. If you have experience in property or tenancy management and providing high quality customer service, then this could be the role for you.
The role of Housing Officer will include:
- Responsible for a patch consisting of general needs, homes for older people and affordable housing properties
- Effective management of anti-social behavior cases and complaints about service delivery
- Liaising with colleagues in Property Services and Lettings to ensure the effective allocation of void properties
- Managing tenant expectations regarding repairs and escalating any property maintenance issues affecting tenant welfare via appropriate channels
- Working with colleagues in other service areas to help the organisation meet its compliance obligations (fire safety, water hygiene, gas safety and data protection)
- Delivering general advice on all aspects of tenancy to enable sustainability
- Working with a range of external agencies to resolve a range of issues affecting tenant welfare including; domestic abuse, anti-social behaviour and safeguarding
- Working closely with administrative colleagues to complete a range of tenancy management processes, which include; tenancy conversions, permissions, mutual exchanges, successions, service charges and enforcement of tenancy breaches
Skills and experiences:
- Proven experience of working within the social housing sector will be a distinct advantage in this role
- Prior experience of delivering high quality tenancy services
- Excellent communication and customer care skills
- Knowledge of relevant housing regulations and legislation
- Excellent skills in analysing and diagnosing problems and implementing solutions
- Experience and knowledge of good practice resident involvement activities
- Occasional travel may be a requirement of the role, therefore a full valid driving licence is essential
