Frederick Hiam Ltd is a diverse farming and fresh produce business. We are seeking a self-motivated and experienced Maintenance Engineer to join our Engineering team at our food manufacturing site in Brandon, Suffolk.
The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining and fault-finding across a diverse range of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and automated production equipment. Working with a variety of machinery and control systems, you will help maximise plant reliability, drive continuous improvement, and support the delivery of high-quality products.

About the Role
- 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
- Rotating shift pattern: Week 1 - 6:00 am–2:30 pm | Week 2 - 2:00 pm–10:30 pm
- One weekend every four weeks (Saturday or Sunday)
- 31 days annual leave, including bank holidays
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose electrical and mechanical faults and implement effective solutions.
- Performing routine maintenance and repairs on machinery and equipment.
- Respond promptly to breakdowns and carry out fault finding and repairs.
- Monitoring and optimising production processes to maximise efficiency.
- Maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities and equipment performance.
- Supporting the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives.
- Carrying out other ad hoc engineering and maintenance duties as required.
Essential Requirements
- Relevant engineering qualification (e.g. NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering).
- Experience with PLC systems and automation.
- Strong knowledge of maintenance and fault-finding for mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, diagrams, and manuals.
- Proactive and solution-focused approach.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- High attention to detail.
- Flexibility to work rotating shifts and participate in the weekend rota.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate clearly.
- Knowledge of health and safety practices.
Desirable Requirements
- BS7671 Latest edition of wiring regulations.
- Experience within a manufacturing or food production environment.
- Experience with automated or packaging machinery.
- Experience with PLC systems and automation.

Pay: £48,456.61 per year
